I like where the client is going (visually) but I have removed it from my machine until they add proper Unidentified Addons support. The new client deleted a bunch of addon directories from my machine. Thankfully I have plenty of backups.. :)
E.g. the client replaced the functioning version for bookworm with the outdated one from curse which is broken / unmaintained.
But ignoring the addon on curse site and using the (old) wowi updater works great.
Don't you have to accept CC's "guess" before it replaces it? That's the whole point of it asking you to accept or reject its guess - you're supposed to verify that Curse's version isn't some weird outdated one. I've got a few addons like RedRange on ignore in CC because of that.
Small concern about the v4 client: It appears to have a "premium override" built in to each of the beta builds. (This was true when testing the v3 client, as well.)
I'm not a premium subscriber, and I think it's important to test the "non-premium" experience with the client as well. I understand if you don't have ads ready to serve yet, but I would guess that a large number of users who end up using this application won't be premium subscribers either. Since it's important for them to have a good (yet presumably limited) experience with the v4 client, I'd be happy to test it this way. Is there a way I can force the client to see me as a non-premium user?

If that is the case i want to test the reduced version as well.
The current v4 windows client does indeed have premium on for everyone atm. We will be disabling this and testing it further (it's already had some internal testing) once we get closer to the full open beta. Don't worry though, we absolutely agree that testing it is very important.
We've been doing some limited testing with a few handfulls of people so far. If you're interested in participating please pm me with your system specs and I'll link you as soon as that version is ready to begin testing.
Just figured I'd mention my experience with the v4 beta. I realize that I should file tickets for all of these issues, but I got too frustrated after only 5 minutes with it that I uninstalled it.
First, many of my installed addons, which v3 manages for me and are on Curse, did not show up in v4.
Second, only 2 of the 5 addons I've customized showed up as customized, and my only two options were to reinstall/"update" to the current Curse version, or set the addon to Ignored. I don't want any of these to be ignored, I want them to tell me when there's an update. For example, many of Tekkub's addons are designed for options to be set by mucking with the code.
v3 had 2 updates for me, while v4 didn't find those updates.
While the concept of skinning is nice, it'd be nice to have a "no skin" option. Just look like a standard windows app, dangit.
So, yeah, after about 5 minutes of this, and not finding any options that might help, I tossed it out the window, feeling like it's alpha quality with a whole LOT of missing features, rather than beta quality.

Can you prepare a dropbox or rapidshare zip of your addons, and PM me a link to download it? If anything, v4 should provide far more accurate addon identification than v3.

What features do you feel are missing? With the exception of the Saved Variables cleaner, v4 has every feature that v3 has, and more.

I'd some visual feedback for when the Curse Profiler data is cleaned out. I can see that the in-game memory usage of the profiler is increasing every day but I have no idea when or if CC4 is cleaning it out regularly. And there doesn't seem to be any options to manually trigger this process.
Okay, sat down and just spent 20 minutes or so trying to put together a review. Let me know which of these things you'd like me to file a ticket/bug report on.
Remembering back to when I installed CC v3, you're probably right that more addons are recognized by v4. I basically reinstalled all my addons when I (hangs head) dropkicked the evil Keanu Reeves installer. I PM'ed you my current addons. The ones it didn't recognize at all (which CC3 does) are:
The 3 addons it lists as unconfirmed are BasicBrokers*, BetterInbox, and ItemLevelDKP*.
* These 5 are the addons CCv3 lists as modified, which they are.
Spending more time with v4 today, I now realize that the addons v4 didn't think had updates were set to use Release, while v3 is set for beta or alpha versions. That'd explain that complaint. Sorry!
The bad:
Having the option to confirm an addon without the client re-installing it would be really nice. I don't remember if CCv3 did this or not.
Listing and opening installation folders is something v3 does which I couldn't find in v4. This is very important to me.
Listing unidentified addons is also a crucial feature.
The ability to change preferred type (alpha/beta/release) of all addons would be really nice.
The good:
The new changelog interface, being able to see the latest, rocks. Thank you!
It recognizes more modifications, e.g., it sees that I've mucked with Auctioneer, which v3 doesn't.
Selectable and sortable columns.
The question:
What's the "AddonSync" button? Does it find and preserve my modifications while updating the addon? That's probably too much to wish for, hunh? :)

I think that feature (when it's done) is planned so that you can use CC4 to play WoW on multiple computers and have the same addon settings (and addons) everywhere. This will be a very interesting feature for me, since I move from my desktop to my laptop when it's more convenient.
Having the option to confirm an addon without the client re-installing it would be really nice. I don't remember if CCv3 did this or not.
CC4 does warn you if an addon designated as "Modified" is about to be updated (it basically reinstalls it, nullifying your changes in the process). I'm not sure if this happens if you use the "Update All" button, but it certainly happens if you use the "Get" button, individually.
The ability to change preferred type (alpha/beta/release) of all addons would be really nice.
You can already do that via the options menu (should be the 2nd tab, if I remember correctly) and you have been able to do so, for some time now.

That does indeed explain it. Before v4 is released, we will be adding a very simple (and skippable) setup wizard / feature tour that opens upon first run of the client. This should help avoid use-issues such as the one you experienced.
The ability to change preferred type (alpha/beta/release) of all addons would be really nice.
You can do this by either right clicking the game in the sidebar and selecting Options, or selecting the Options from the Tools menu and clicking the Games tab. Just set your preferred type, and click Reset All.
What's the "AddonSync" button? Does it find and preserve my modifications while updating the addon? That's probably too much to wish for, hunh? :)
AddonSync in its first version is intentionally simple to setup and use. It will currently only synchronize the addons you have installed between two or more computers (or two ore more installs of WoW, on the same computer). In the future, we may consider syncing modifications, but that is a level of complexity we're not comfortable adding for this release.
Thanks very much for the constructive feedback. I am confident that the items you listed in "The Bad" will be resolved soon.
Adamar, can you give us any overview as to how the UIWizard feature is going to work?
It is already working- you can try it now :)
The UI Wizard offers a convenient way to package up a bunch of addons, and share them with the community in the form of CCIP (Curse Client Install Package) files.

Aha! I must've missed the "Reset All" button. I found the set preferred type, which I set, but that didn't change existing addons. Thanks!

Ahh, sounds like a great idea! I'll probably never use it, but I can see how a lot of people would. Will it save SV files as well as the addons, or just the addons?
I still like my idea of keeping modifications....

Yeah, this is CC3's behavior, which I assumed was still here. I was actually referring to the case where it appears CC4 isn't sure if this folder is associated with that addon, in which case it gives you 2 choices: Ignore or Reinstall. The versions match exactly, so while I'll go ahead and save my folder, reinstall, then toss the new folder for my saved one, having it just associate would be good. Of course, the same thing will apply for unrecognized addons once that feature comes along. Now that I think about it (having just had my coffee :) ) this is much more minor than I originally thought. It's a one-time thing, so definitely not a big deal.
Does it upload the whole addon folder, or just a tag that tells CC to download certain addons? How does it handle WTF files? Can we provide screenshots along with the upload automatically? Will there be a rating system, or category (PvP, Raid, Heal, DPS)? Will there be a way to create addon plugin packs to supplement? I need specifics :D!

As of version 4.0.0.607, you can enable a standard Windows Aero theme.
