Yeah that does seem a possibility, since currently it reads in each file for every addon to fingerprint it. That should alleviate some with the new scanner in the 4.0 client.
There is no difference whether I use CC right after the boot up is finish or 15 minutes later. If I run CC then exit then run it again, the scanning is a lot faster and this may have something to do with the file system caching NTFS information.
The extraction part of the install is always long and always freeze the system midway during the extraction. If I install/update 5 packages, I'll get 5 freezes.
Interesting. Then it's a disk operation that it's waiting for, and for some reason, locking your system. Does it just lock up the CC, or is your entire system unresponsive?

I have the same problem also, and that doesn't seems related to disk read/write. BTW, that's not a lock up, the progress bar just stop in the middle and it will disappear later with doing nothing, neither retrieving, extracting or rebuilding the addon list. And that's an operation abort by CC itself.
this also happens in building Addon progress bar.
after all of the above, if I hit the refresh button, scanning begins again and all addons will have exclamation mark after the long boring scan.
All this will takes 10+ mins time, depends on how many time you hit the upgrade button
scanning 3-4 mins
rebuilding addon list 1 min
hit upgrade/reinstall, retrieving 1-2 mins
rebuilding addon list 1 min

So far as I can tell, anything that need I/O either on local disk or on the network is also frozen. I cannot open an Explorer window and I can't load a web site in Chrome.
It stays frozen for 20-30 seconds and then the bar just fill up completely in about a second.
Aaaaaaaaaaaany way I can force a refresh/first scan on my "Find An Addon" tab? It's empty, and all buttons on the top are grayed out. I would kinda like to search for some useful addons now that I'm actually PvPing (hooray dual spec), but I... can't.
Is there a place one can report misbehaving (?) addons with the CC?
I mentioned it on IRC and I think netcurse said he had fixed it but I'm still seeing the issue with CC 3.0.0.4.
The addon in question is RaidCooldowns and no matter how many times it is updated through CC, it always shows as having a new update available on the next refresh.
Is it possible to fix this somehow? It's not too big a deal because I obviously don't just keep updating it since it's been "broken" like this for months but perhaps others do (thus wasting bandwidth).

I had this issue a few times. In every case, the fix was to delete the addon from my Addons folder, then use the CC to find and reinstall it.
CC works fine under Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100), although it might be nice to be able to disable the system tray icon and just minimize to the taskbar due to the way the taskbar and system tray work in Windows 7.
I'm not sure if there's a better place to post this, but I noticed that when going to the "Find an Addon" tab the version numbers it shows as the latest are incorrect. However, it does install the latest version when you click install.
I just got a new machine and I can't get CC to recognize my new Option choices. I want to check the box that says "close client whn I click X" and uncheck the box that says "start Curse at Windows startup". But the choices aren't saving.
I wonder - I have dpi set to large and I don't see any button that says "save my choices" or some such. I've just been clicking the red button on the top right. Am I missing something? Is that something related to the larger font display because of my dpi settings?
Or is it something else altogether.
I'm using Vista 32bit Home Premium, at 1280x1040 with Radeon 4850 graphics.
Oh - I'm not a premium subsciber so I'm just using the basic client, fwiw.
Yeah, I thought that might be the trouble. With windows set to a dpi of 120, the whole screen gets cut off. All I see is this:
If there was a way to scroll the screen or resize it, it wouldn't be a problem but as it is, people with desktop resolution set to large can't get it to work.

Apparently, this is not interesting!!!

The version info shown by CC is:
Before 2009/05/07 and for the past couple months, it used to say:
Is it possible to fix this somehow? It's not too big a deal because I obviously don't just keep updating it since it's been "broken" like this for months but perhaps others do (thus wasting bandwidth).
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
Where are the log files located?

Bug or feature? ;)
