Since I have all of my addons in my favorites, I can quickly see which ones have been updated since the last time I updated.
(and yes, if there is only 1 updated I simply grab it manually ;) )
What you're doing is using a fuckton of bandwidth (depending on the number of addons you have) for no good reason. If you have 150 addons, and five have been updated in the past week, you're still downloading 150 addons. If enough people start doing this, we'll probably start seeing every addon distribution site go to registration-only and/or capcha downloads.
This is the same problem WAU had - munching bandwidth and costing insane amounts of money - except for the fact that it was restricted to files.wowace.com.
I think the original problem may be more where he's pointing JWU to update from. The dates on addons I update via Curse don't match up with the dates from WowAce or WowInterface. I ran JWU this morning and it updated just fine.
All the dates for addons I update from Curse are still 9/29. Addons from WowAce and WowInterface are far more recent. Yeah, I'm updating from WoAce, but just from the "Update" button.
So it looks like there's a problem with Curse's dates, and since JWU is a stalled project, it doesn't look like it's going to be fixed any time soon (I won't say JWU is "dead" since there are a number of people expressing interest in continuing it's development).
(Edit: and confirmed: JWU *does* still update. Just updated Cart3, PitBull and oRA2.)
don't bother IMO, CC functionality is easier to use. That and i run WoWI's updater along side it and works prefectly for what i use.
I don't trust an updater that decides I need addons I didn't ask for. Why does Curse Client decide I need EluneDKP or CurseProfiler? And after I delete those, why does Curse Client keep putting them back? Those aren't libraries, so they have no business coming anywhere near my computer if I don't want them there.

Like all things, try using it properly. Maybe if you read up on how to use it properly (Like that's going to happen) you might be singing a different tune.

And just what the hell is that supposed to mean? I'm not some "u giv addons nao!" kid. The Curse Client tried to foist those extra addons on my the very first time I ran it. Before I could even start to configure it it wanted to grab CurseProfiler.
JWU doesn't download *any* addon that I don't tell it to get first. It works (no matter what I'm running, it works), and I trust it more than I trust the Curse Client.

Sorry didn't mean to flame or sound out of place. Just stating the obvious. When i first installed the CC, it did as well isntall the profiler, altho i knew that it would do this because i read up on the CC thread. As for how it would react to my addons list i also knew that it was not *PERFECT* nor did i expect it to be.
If you take my posting as a serious attempt at anything, you are truely deluded, i honestly don't care.
Keep in mind I am not a tech-head and a lot of what you guys type goes completely over my brain.
Would it be possible to "reverse-engineer" the JWU code if someone had the complete download off the site? I'm running ver. 2.4 atm and it works like a dream. I could zip my version and email it to someone if that's possible?
It would be possible, but a lot of information is lost. For example comments where he explained things and function names. It would be a considerable effort to make the source usable again.
And I'm not sure under which license rolf released JWowUpdater, but if it wasn't a open source license it would even be illegal as far as I know.
Oh well. I guess I'll keep using my version till it's busticated (odds of that happening in about 8 days = high). :(
How do you figure that? We have the more current game version than what's on the WotLK discs. If JWU is working now, then it should still work after the 13th barring massive reorganization on *all* the sites holding your preferred addons.
Sadly these are both inaccessible for me (Google Code tells me that my client "does not have permission to get URL /p/jwowupdater/ from this server", and the fambagge.dk URL returns a 404).
Does anyone have any up to date URLs? Also, if the original poster is reading, could you perhaps update your post?
[NB: I have not checked any of the previous posts in this thread. I will do so in a minute; the reason I am posting is because the main sources of information are currently incorrect and it would be useful for them to be updated. (This thread is also the top result in Google when searching for "JWoWUpdater".) I will post anything useful I find.]
Thanks and an ice cream in advance.

Update
OK, well, I guess it looks like JWoWUpdater is no longer being maintained. That's a shame! Still, kudos to the author for providing what looks like a useful tool, for the time he did.
There are still people willing to continue from where it left off, if they had the chance. I wouldn't necessarily call that dead.
Part of the problem is that there is no easy way to continue jWowUpdater, at least not without turning it into another WoWMatrix (page scrapping and having to push out new versions if the sites change, etc).
Anyone could create a WowInterface updater and see how they did it, it's GPL code, as in open source. The CurseClient is not, nor do they make it available as to how they are fetching updates / information about the addons.
If that ever happens and they allow others to create clients, I wouldn't mind creating a client that would talk to both. I even thought of doing so when jWowUpdater died. Talked to the author too and he declined help and basically called the project defunct, which as the author he has the right to do.
If people from Curse are reading and would be willing to talk about an open API with some ads or something to help offset the bandwidth cost I'd be interested. I really want to see what they have cooking on some of the new features for the CurseClient though. Assuming these come through and the stability stays roughly the same, CurseClient may be a very good addon updater. Until then I'll keep running both the CurseClient and the WowInterface Updater and disembedding my own addons.
Looks like the last version of JWU is dying or is just barely holding on. Nothing pointing to WowAce will update or reinstall, and pointing to WowInterface will look like it's downloading, but it actually won't. Only addons pointed to Curse will actually move any data.
Not a complaint, just an observation to let anyone else in the same boat know it's not just them.
(edit)I took a look at the dates in the Handle Addons section. The date is now listed as "0" after an addon is updated. When it's zero, it will never update or reinstall. Changing the JWU db XML to make the date -1 will work, but it would have to be edited by hand every time.(/edit)
Good. :)
Indeed. If the source can be found.

Oh well, thanks for the program while it lasted.

Yeah, maybe you missed the point of the 3.0.2 patch. We've been running the WotLK code for nearly a month now.
Just wanted to note that the original post links to two pages, one on code.google.com and one on fambagge.dk:

having options to consider, is always better than having one forced choice that you may/may not like
