Ace was popular because of the SVN web interface ( the files.wowace.com page) and only after for the WAU. that;s what made u known among wow players.
u guys closed down both. and are now driving all u;r users away with u;r patronizing attitude.
if u don;t want ppl to use your addons, just say so. and close down the Ace site. because without the SVN and the WAU, the Ace brand will slip into legend.
I stop playing for six months and the whole addon community goes ballistic
Just considering a return to WoW, but then I notice there's no sweet WAU to keep all the 100 addons up-to-date, everything working minutes after new patch was released, and laughing at those waiting impatiently for the 'release' to come available on some site (sometimes took about 2 weeks, can't be better now).
Blizz, some gold to host wowace, plz :)
Or if someone from Google reads this, buy Curse, host wowace, thx.

Guys.. people! WAU keep what should have been always UNSTABLE addons up to date. Naturaly there would be alot of updates to BETA SOFTWARE. The merger with curse.com is to promote the general use of -->STABLE<-- Addons. As such you won't be updating as often. YOU WON"T NEED wau anymore because things arn't going to be turning over as fast as they where under the old system.
I just have a general question regarding the switch and since I see the discussion here I see it fitting:
Are the addons that you find on wow.curse.com the ones the CC downloads? Cause I am using WUU atm and when I last used it to update all Ace addons I used to the "newest" version available on CurseGaming I got 16 errors showing up in BugSack out of the nowhere compared to using the same addons downloaded with WAU and 0 errors.
Yes I did the switch to embedded with WAU before I started using WUU. Still when I load the addons from curse there seems to be a difference and I get many errors with the same addons.
Visceroid, the addons that WUU prolly picked to match the ones you have where prolly faulty. I would double check the configureation on all your addons in WUU to make sure they are pointing to the correct project.
You may want to start manually downloading the mods from curse.com and the load up in game to make sure they work / are the correct ones. Then setup WUU to update that project and not one that has a slight-of-hand similar name.
Well all I checked (which were the ones BugSack said have an error) where the right ones. I also added most of the addons manually to WUU so I guess thats not really the problem. I guess some of the versions on curse are not the right (read last) version which I can get from WAU atm and thus cause compatibility errors with other addons.
I have no idea where the problem lies and I can't use CC without reinstalling it because it still has my Lib* folders in the list cause when I first started it I was still non-embedded.
PS: Still using more than 200 addons after going embedded so using any manual mode is not really viable for me.
Visceroid, be aware that since this is the day before 3.0, many add-ons have been updated for the patch, and you may be seeing some errors that only happen on 2.4. Best to wait until tomorrow to actually update everything.

I know that was what I was thinking as well.. but I already updated 2 days ago when the errors happened and I guess not many WotLK addons were downloaded from curse there yet.
Also all but 2 addons showed a 20300 or 20400 TOC in WUU. The other 2 showed 30000 so I guessed they couldn't work and disabled/deleted them.
Re-Installing CC client atm and trying to update with it again. This thing really needs a "rescan addons from harddisk" option. Un&Reinstalling it everytime you manually delete something from your addon folder is a pain.
Found one part of the errors: The addons on curse are packed differently apparently compared to wowace. With WAU I got folders like this:
Quartz
Quartz_Buff
Quartz_Flight
now when I updated with CC it looked like this
Quartz
Quartz\Buff
Quartz\Flight
and so on ^^ this was causing around 40 "double registration" errors when logging in (of course ^^ addons DID exist twice).
This nevertheless leaves me with 7 unsolved errors (most of them "attempt to index local 'frame' (a nil value)") after updating with the CC. I'll see if the problems go away after 3.0.2 actually hits us.
This list of updated mods will keep causing havoc.
The problem is that the "release" site, curse.com is "updating" with any change to the underlying project.
Even if it's not one that causes the files on the "release" site to be updated.
We are not helping anyone by repeating the same useless information about how to configure the updater,
unless we want to send people running in circles "buying time" for fixes.
Follow that link I just posted and tell me which of those addons are actual updates for 3.0.2
and which are r4xxxx files from the old wowace svn.
90% of the file listing is garbage.
If CC pulls from the same sources it will keep breaking people's addons folders simple as that.
I'm sorry to say but that page might as well be taken down immediately. The best service curse can do to its visitors at this moment with patch-day madness coming.
It's 10x times worse than anything files.wowace.com ever was.
Follow me as I click the currently top "updated" mod: item2phpBB
"Last Update: 1 hour, 3 minutes ago"
If I am a clueless user I might happily download r56825.19 that happens to be the "most recently updated" file.
If I was a frequent visitor of files.wowace.com I might remember that the wowace svn closed
down somewhere around the r89000 revision number so this looks fishy.
Idea: maybe the files from Curseforge just haven't updated yet!
(we're already in science fiction lands as no ordinary user will make such deductions).
Let's see how easy it is to visit the "back-end" to see what caused the update alert.
The only link on the mod page that takes you to the project pages is "See tickets on Curseforge"
I have to follow that then on that page (that probably contains no tickets)
pick the Files tab then click on the topmost file to see this changelog
" r56825 | mok | 2007-12-10 19:11:02 -0500 (Mon, 10 Dec 2007) | 2 lines

M /trunk/item2phpBB/localization.lua item2phpBB:

and I still after all this detective work and 10 clicks have no f*cking clue why that mod is on the "updated" list.
While I fully understand and support all the reasons for the change...
Curse is a total mess atm.
In a very ironic twist of events, Curse - the public frontend
is only usable by addon developers and power users atm.
Every normal user has a good chance of fcking up their interface.
IMO: Find the parts that work and axe everything else until patch day madness is over.
Hide it under the carpet or whatever.. just take the non-working parts out of public view.
The problem is that the "release" site, curse.com is "updating" with any change to the underlying project.
That's what annoys me the most about the "new" curse. Not only does it do it in the recently updated section, it does it in favorites too. So if you check the page instead of checking your email (provided you have email notifications turned on), you'll see a bunch of addons are showing as updated today even though the released file is the same as xx days ago. It's not just the WoW AddOns either...same thing happens for Warhammer. I wish more of the Warhammer addons were available on war.mmoui because I really can't stand the new iteration of the curse site. I tried the client, but getting minimal feedback from the client itself about what it was doing and when it was doing it made me uninstall it pretty quickly.
I'm just glad that all but maybe 4-5 of my addons are available on WoWInterface. The others I can check the wowace projects for.
@ the poster formerly known asAstaldo : keal is aware of that problem with the "Recently Updated" and has stated that he forwarded it to the curse.com web team. it'll get fix'ed eventualy >.> tho i agree that it should be axed while patch day happens...
I don't find myself in any of the categories really, though I suppose I'm just a hairline notch above the "ZOMG USER". Only key difference being that I realized and understood that the mods were beta mods, could be bugged or flaky, but wasn't much of getting into the code to help fix it, so I can't really classify myself as a power user either.
I didn't spam for updates ever single time I saw a change in version number. I typically used WAU when I saw new features to a mod in its thread, or of course...for patch days. Which is how I of course found out that WAU isn't working at this point.
I think a simple observation of how long ago that announcement went out and how long it took me to realize that WAU didn't work anymore supports my above statement.
Even understanding and relating to the "developer site" mentality, I have to say that this is still a terrible way for things to end. I am personally disheartened a great deal. I much much prefer wowace addons. One of the reasons I started coming here in the first place, was my attempt to fully ace my mods. Any mods I had that were not Ace powered, I came here to look for replacements. Ace powered mods generally run better, look better, and perform their task better than most comparable mods out there.
Now, I have to try and track down all my favorite ace powered mods from the crap and riff raff mods that are floating around out there now. To me, Ace was a stamp of quality that will no longer reside in an obvious fashion.
As I read the article on why this change was coming about I can't help but ask myself the question: Since it grew out of control so quickly, one can only assume its popularity was immense, why not open an end users wowace site, for full release versions? (Yeah, I know, like we need another addon site). But honestly, the Ace site was easier to use, loads faster, has better mods, and obviously has a very loyal following. Not to mention that WAU destroys the crap out of all the other auto-updaters. Wishful thinking I know, but sure would be nice.
I loathe the thought of going to Curse or UI. Wowinterface is not so bad, but the others make me cringe.
Build 14 of the Curse Client is actually decent. Best results obtained by starting over and having it install all your add-ons. I just did that and found all of them but 3, which are only released on WoWI. It took me a bit to get done, but now it's totally clean. And really, with a big patch like today's, you should go through all your add-ons manually anyway.
Curse site has been redesigned recently. It is now FAST. The user friendliness is still debatable, but the new wowace.com is quite nice.
The new system is much better for developers. I can push new releases of my code ultra-fast by comparison. The ticket system is sweet. It's really helping me out.
Overall every change is positive other than the updater, and the updater will get better. It's already good enough to use.
If you had EVER visited the forums, you would have known this was coming.
perhaps mentioning it OUTSIDE of the forums would have been a good idea, it would have picked up real interest, i assure you, instead of springing it on patch day for the drama.

/bye Ace. u will be missed
The WoWAce addons go straight to the Curse now, so it'll be as fresh as WoWAce.
while there are some ideological differences in this statement, for the masses it is true :D
True. (quoting it in the hopes that people will be reading it and knowing it.
I know, but it is true for the average addon-user; and any non-average user already knows what to do ;)
