I'm kinda confused!
My WAU was crashing for some days now and I decided to visit the forums for some infos...
No I read about "WAU is dead" and everyone's opinion about the CC.
I read here for about an hour and found nothing helpful, only opinions... I installed the CC and it's nothing like WAU... I don't even find my AddOns there. Is it even connecting to wowace?
I have no idea what to do... where to start and how to update my loved ace addons...
Steps to follow:
#1 Back-Up your untouched, unedited addons
#2 List down the real addons separate from the libs
#3 Start finding your addons over at Curse-Gaming.com and WoWInterface.com
#4 Download manually, extract/install manually
#5 If you can't find some addons, your second option is to find an alternative or new addon
#6 If you dont want to, wait for a "release" version to show up in Curse-Gaming.com
#7 If you still dont want to, search for it in the Projects page of wowace.com
#8 Uninstall WAU. As you've quoted, "WAU is dead"
For your other questions, I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable people.
Who smoked to much crack and is responsible for this shit?
this is the greatest BULLSHIT ever...
But thx for the infos!
If you had EVER visited the forums, you would have known this was coming. Kaelten first alerted us back in late June/early July of this year and there has been a merry little debate going on since then.
Information is power and Ignorance is not an excuse.
So you're not a dev, you're just a user to get "OMG GIEF ADDONS NOW!!!111". And wowace *is* a developping community. You're basically upset because you didn't see it coming, even though we all knew about it for months now and because you lost WAU.
Well skwishu, the cost of running wowace far exceeded what was feasable. Curse had been paying the hosting costs of wowace for quite some time, so this change - while I may not like it completel - was needed. Without it, you would have been able to kiss wau, wowace, and its addons goodbye.
But I must say, you have some kind of audacity, to come here, insult a trainload of people because your life just got a little less easy. To put hosting in perspective, I too have hosting, as do you. But we don't use well over 1TB (that's 1024GB) in a brief while, having traffic speeds exceed 150MBps.
Client isn't 100% ready yet, but getting closer. As well as only downloads release versions and not every ace addon has a release version tagged yet (one of the problems with the old wowace is that some addons were never released and the wowace svn and WAU downloaded alpha/beta versions. If you are getting no errors at the moment, just stick with the version you have for a few days more ('till you NEED to update due to patch) and I'd bet almost all will be client ready by then.
I made an experience yesterday. I backed up my addons folder and then emptied it. After that I launched the CC and reinstalled all my addons through it (using the search tab). Surprisingly, CC behaved quite well. I then just copied the addons that were not available through CC and those I'm working on.
Moonwitch stop treading me like a 12yo wow kiddie... "OMG GIEV" etc. is not my style and I know how much a TB is. Hmmm just let me say: Leck's mia do' oam Orsch!
I was just sad about losing a very good tool! I understand the change now that I got linked the thread... before I was reading opinion for over a hour and that sucked... everyone had something to say... but I needed facts and not what was on peoples minds... And I must say I used the wrong words because I just didn't knew what happend!
OK, it is a developing community... So you just want developers to use the addons... thats what you just said!
So this was not supposed to be a flaming thread and I never intended to insult people... I was just venting (? my english is not so good) my feelings!
I now fully understand the changes! Money doesn't grow on trees!

@gramg
Thx 4 Info! Very kind!
WoWAce is for developers and beta tester power users - if you aren't one of them, then your sites are curse.com, wowinterface.com and wowui.worldofwar.net, but definitely not wowace.com.
Tbh Users like you made it necessary to do the change....
those not caring about anything but their own lazy ass.
Because people thinking every knew .xx version meant they had to update their addons,
those using a free service and whining as soon as it doesn't work the way they knew it anymore.
Yes, I'm not an author myself, but I donate, I help with translations when possible, I give feedback.
Yes, I dislike the Curse Client as it is right now, but I care enough to write a wall of text with my opinion, so the devs know what the people feel about their product.
And switching the language to German - a language only a fraction of the people here can understand - is quite rude imho.
OK, it is a developing community... So you just want developers to use the addons... thats what you just said!
Not at all. Anyone can use the addons. The problem was with people downloading every hour when the changes were mostly only for alpha/beta branches and language updates. The majority of people shouldn't be doing that or using those addons.
Come on guys, be at least halfway civil, I agree that wowace is a dev community and needs to stay that way to an extent, but no need to be rude about it. People are just confused and some don't know how to speak in a non-entitlement way. (Some of that might be us misreading too, since not everyone speaks English very well).
My philosophy: quick answer, point to stickies if needed, send them on their way, hopefully with an answer or at least a way to get it.
(as for the "only for dev community" part, we want users here, but we want constructive users specifically, trying to make it easier for the more clueless users to get released and quality addons from where they should, release sites.)
I hate double posting, but I felt I needed to add something.
We, as a community caused the clueless come here first by developing and encouraging them to use WAU, not releasing our addons at all, etc. It's our fault that they are here. We shouldn't take it out on them, but rather just calmly show them where to go from now on, ie:
Released addons go to release sites. All addons hosted on wowace go to curse.com, some are hosted elsewhere as well. The forums here are for general things, but for specific help on addons all you'll need to do is click the tickets button on the release site. The reason for the change is in the stickie in the General forum: http://forums.wowace.com/showthread.php?t=14343
If you wish to contribute to this community by helping out our development process by bug testing/reporting, translating, helping people with thier coding troubles and giving them ideas for addons, or helping bug squash (assuming you are so skilled), you are welcome to stay and do so, we would be grateful to have you as part of our community. If on the other hand you just want help with a specific problem, want an updated version of addons, etc. Your place is release sites where the addons are hosted.
WowAceUpdater is dead and gone as it encouraged people to use alpha/beta versions of addons requiring lots of updates, taking huge amounts of bandwidth and in the long run was very counterproductive to our continuing of making quality addons (as well as being too expensive to exist for much longer, if any longer). The release sites have their own updaters, the curse one is the new curse client and will get better as time goes on. WoWInterface has it's own udpater as well.

I wouldn't call the 2nd response civil or non - insulting.
Addons are free to be downloaded, but wowace itself, is bleeding edge. Most of the efforts went/go into support for average users who simply used wowace for the updater. That's where it went downhill. I don't speak for any of the release sites, I solely speak from a dev pov. That being said, I don't host most of my addons on wowace, or anywhere else for that matter. Mainly because I dislike the support requests, which resemble "build my ui" pretty much in more elaborate terms.
About the not knowing about changes, STICKIES, Announcements, just to name a few things most people should read upon stumbling across a forum but never do.
Also, it's great you know how much a TB is, and that you speak other languages or something similar, still doesn't change the fact that your second reply was the insulting part to which I responded in a similar method ;)
With that said, <puts on his fireproof suit as he's sure he'll need it>
This deserved a solo reply. You're not going to get flamed for that, I've just grown tired of repeating the same thing over and over again while it's present in stickies all over this place. :P
With that said, <puts on his fireproof suit as he's sure he'll need it>
Nah. That's exactly what should be on the home page of www.wowace.com
The problem is, the people who used WAU and never came here before it broke don't want to look for the answer in the forum. So they post asking about it. Many of them don't ask nicely, and have nothing more to say than expletives. After quite a few of those, some people's reactions are going to be explosive.
I just stopped replying at all, because I realized that's the direction I was heading. It's not the same person posting every time, but it sure feels like it after awhile. :)
you really can't blame people for missing wau, it's just so easy to run once a day before you log in. You should release the software to curse or something heh.

You eat a lot of fortune cookies don't you?
Why should I visit the forum? I come here when I need support! I Don't develope Addons and I don't know nobody here...
For me it is a damn ugly thing to handle especially because I don't trust curse und their clients...
I understand that servers cost money I have some on my own...
but it still sucks (ALOT)...
Why not with the client?
