So, I didn't realize until today that there was some type of merger between Curse and Ace.
My question is I have been using this MacAceUpdater but its simply not working anymore. Not sure if it is an inherent bug in the program or if a recent security update for OS X is keeping it from working now. The developer isn't even updating it anymore.
Curse does not yet have an updater for mac, but their website says that they are working on one.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I should use now? I can't find anything the internet :(
For now, you can download and install manually. The beta client for mac is linked in the announcement on the home page of wowace. I hear that it's not quite up to par yet, but they're hoping to get lots of work done on it over the weekend.
Indeed, there is a beta version of the CC client for the Mac available. Be forewarned though that this is not a "true" Mac app. Yes it runs on the Mac, but it was built using some cross platform GUI kit, and doesn't even remotely resemble a Mac app. It looked out of place on my desktop, I felt like I was running an app inside of Crossover (Wine for the Mac). I spent enough time to backup my addons, install the beta, run it, have it mess up my addons, remove it, and restore my addons. It's "hardly" production quality yet, and frankly I'm not planning on using it.
I will find a way around this, even if it includes paying for the premium service just so I can have a key that lets me use a third party updater. As at this point, anything is better than what we have been given.
Where should we be submitting feedback about weirdness with how the mac client is updating addons? The "Report a Bug" page that the client pops up?
FYI: I've just started testing it out, and noticed a problem with the fourth addon I attempted to update. It rolled my addon back to a previous version. I checked out the curse page for it (BankItems: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/bank-items.aspx?PageIndex=1) and the "Current Version" line at the top of the page doesn't agree with the list of updates listed further down the page. It makes me suspect that the problem might be on the Curse side of things rather than the client.
Edit: turns out the client (and curse) are ignoring files tagged as "beta".
