Curious - do I have a false understanding that WAU is supposed to update itself now? I still have .516. If there's something I'm not getting and/or something I have to do to get it to update, let me know. :)
it auto updates itself now, or at least it does so for me, presuming you ran all the steps for whatever browser you use just select wau in the programs file menu

hmm... To install it, I ran IE, so I wouldn't have to bother installing the OneClick plugin for FF. Went through the installation, it's installed in the recommended location, etc. Took a shortcut to the app and put it on my desktop where I had it for the old version of WAU. I've been running it ever since via that shortcut.
After reading your post, I went to the Start Menu and opened the program from there - something new asked for permission from my firewall: dfsvc.exe. I'm still at .516.
edit: correction - I just checked my shortcut again, .516. Opened it via the Start Menu and got an "update available" window. NOW I'm at .530. ;) I guess I was confused as to what the actuall install path was and what I should have been creating a shortcut to. Why are there essentially two copies of the program on my computer now (since I ran the update)? Also, I assume I should create the shortcut to the "application reference" file?
Hmm if you mean this .exe: WowAceUpdater-1.9.42-netinstall.exe - I run the setup program, it then downloads a new .exe, I run this one as well and then I get this error (problems uploading so I'm sorry for the spam):

Yup, the application reference is the only way to correctly run the app. The physical location can change, but that reference is always correct. Also due to security restrictions if you dont use it you can/will get errors like you see everyone getting. (Its one of the main causes)
I can't even see an application reference file. Mine's been updating fine from a shortcut straight to the EXE but now I'm wondering in case it stops working sometime, where should the shortcut be pointing?

There is Start Menu/All Programs/Wowace.com/
You can copy the app-ref file anywhere you like, it works like a shortcut, so you just copy it somewhere else if you want
With .530 I get no ChangeLog.html, and the whole process seems to stop.
It says "Creating Change Summary At C:\Documents and Settings\Fredrik\Lokala instllningar\Apps\2.0\N71Z8V76.WG0\9NTZWV4V.Q3B\wowa..tion_d76ccab02584da8d_0001.0009_03973470d1145139\ChangeLog.html"
I suppose the problem is that question mark, which should be an "?" ;)
Ok I downloaded the version from Source Forge and I have the same issue as someone else posted with it never starting. So then I followed the link sylvannar posted (the EXE file) and it starts and looks like it might work BUT it doesn't. I also downloaded the Firefox "click once" thing and I use it to get it to start in the first place.
When I click in the Output tab this is the error message I get. I have read many posts and the only one I found that I think remotely matches my issue is the reseting winsock command. Which I admit I am computer impaired and don't know how to do that. SO.. if someone can review this or has suggestions please let me know. I will keep reading on my own but any help is appreciated.

thats all i need to see - its the same one everyone with corrupt winsock keys has.
OK.. I reset the winsock per instructions given to me in another reply.. and I no longer get any error messages in the output box. Now all boxes are empty and at the bottom of the WAU it says "Ready (Data is not cached old)"
Side Note.. I just closed the WAU and tried reopening it and I am right back to the winsock error. :(
Thank you again for your quick response and help in this issues!

Yuck. Well, I've been running from the Start menu, so periodically I get a balloon tooltip from my system tray saying that WAU has been updated and that I can click the balloon to restart WAU.

to get higher you need to either use the .exe or wait for it to be posted to sourceforge.

Then REBOOT immediately
IE.. where do i go to put that code in to my computer?
