I remember reading that wotlk patch added .png support for images. Is this true or do we still have to convert to .tga?

I don't know offhand, but you could find out yourself in about 30 seconds by trying to load one.

XnView is a NICE image browser, importer/exporter, etc, and it natively supports BLPs, IIRC. Just export to PNG (with transparency) and edit in your favorite editor. As far WoW format, just stick with TGA.

It may not be listed but it does. I've been using XnView for a long time. It's a very nice image viewer.
