That's part of the point of this post. Right now as a Canadian in order to get be able to use the points, you need to accumulate $500 US worth of points. If there is a high enough demand for it, they would consider adding Amazon.ca gift certificates into the store which would bring the point total down quite a bit.
Can't you order from amazon.com even if you're not in the US? I've heard of people ordering from, for example, amazon.uk when they don't live in the UK. You might have to create a separate Amazon account, but for occasional purchases that doesn't seem like a deal-breaker.
