So what do you all think of this (From MMO Champion)
Quote from: Zarhym (Source) She has lurked in her lair and done battle with the many brave adventurers who travelled to that familiar location over the years. Now, in honor of the World of Warcraft 5-year anniversary, the dreaded brood mother Onyxia is being revamped to make a return to the forefront of Azeroth, as part of our big plans for the upcoming 3.2.2 content patch.
This permanent update to Onyxia will convert the dungeon into 10- and 25-player modes. We will be adding new items to Onyxias loot table that have the same model as some of the classic loot from this dungeon, like Tier 2 helms, with stats updated to match the current level of content. There will be a special new item too: a normal drake-sized 310% speed flying mount modeled after Onyxia herself called an Onyxia Broodling. We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding, but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.
Then for a limited time, after the 5-year anniversary event officially begins in November, anybody who logs in will receive an Onyxia Brood Whelpling pet.
Were very excited to bring this classic encounter back to provide a fun new experience for both new and veteran players. Further details will be available in the near future, and we will be setting up the Public Test Realms soon to help test out this fight along with all the new content we have planned for the patch. Keep an eye on the forums for updates!
I can see my guild getting ready to kill here again and again!
Hit the walk backwards button to get out of fear bug :P They should upgrade Quel'Serrar too and use the original placeholder T2 art - ugly brown turban for me. DK's should get a paper bag helm.
I absolutely don't like the idea of bringing Onyxia back to kick her ass again and again. I didn't like bringing back Naxxramas either, but I did understand the fact that really a lot of people out there didn't see the instance when it was brought to the servers for the first time, and they got their chance to see it when WotLK was released.
But Onyxia... oh well... seems like Blizzard is running out of ideas (creating new encounters).
I don't get the lack of ideas argument... this isn't even for a major patch, it's for 3.2.2 and because it's WoW's 5th anniversary. Naxx isn't even comparable. Yes it was recycled content but it fit the lore for WotLK, many hadn't seen it and it was said to be the best dungeon they'd done. Either way, with another expansion about to be announced, it sure doesn't look like lack of ideas to me...
If you think about it, what percentage of the WoW population was *not* around pre-BC? Plus the 5 year anniversary, and that everyone used to have to do Ony... /shrug
I'd gladly take the teddy bear (and like it) than having them mess around with classic encounters that don't real require any changes or "reviving". Does this game absolutely require another epics vendor ? What's up for next year then ? C'thun Reborn ? :p
Onyxia has little to no purpose in wow right now. Yet it is a memorable experience at the time it was relevant.
I think they can revive Onyxia, as a interesting encounter right now (and not just as an "epic vendor", but as an encounter experience), giving back it's "real" threat and appeal.
The player base have been requesting that the original content somehow change and, with Naxx and now Onyxia, Blizzard is doing just that. If all they hear about it is complaints, they might just stop trying.
Level 60, right now, is not a major milestone in character progression. As such, the content made for this level is underused, and certainly never used as it is supposed to be. Retooling part of that content, with respect to the original experience, to be relevant for max level characters is a great idea. It doesn't cost as much as creating new content (mostly in time, which is important for players), and it gives players something new to do that is relevant for them, and thus have a much wider appeal.

You're forgetting BWL, but i'd pay for another encounter that rivalled with C'thun at level 60

Yeah, and destroying the lore completely at the same time. Onyxia's head is currently hanging in Stormwind, did she grow a new one?

"I prefer to remember the Temple as it used to be; not the abomination it has become."
And just for nostalgia sake. Heh, I had forgotten that initially, you could drop battle standards outside battlegrounds.
More dots, more dots, many whelps, handle it.
Oh the good ol days :p
We already have bosses that are near identical encounters to ancient content, now they're just gonna flat out recycle the entire Onyxia encounter? :|

Me very sad. :(

Unfortunately, they won't.
