Thats right. The Captcha is just the fallback. If you have Flash, you'll just see a Link in a flash widget, and on click it'll download. It really looks nearly like before, except that the font is a bit different, and that on right click you get the flash context menu ;)
On the other hand, is it finally official that 3rd party clients that alternative OS users (mainly Linux) like WoW UI Updater will no longer be tolerated? I'm pretty sure most of us would switch to the Curse Client if the thing would run in Wine...

I've been using the Curse Client without issue under Wine. Well, I take that back: When the client updates itself, it hangs and does nothing but display a box that says "Waiting for the Curse Client to close". I click Cancel, and it runs the updated version.

I switched my wine install over to the beta revs off their apt-get repo, and it works like a charm, even in updating it :)

Knowing the admins on both site track record about genuine user access, i'd suspec that the fixes are in the works already. One can only test so much before letting the masses chew away at it to find the problems you never would have seen :)
I've got similar problems like the TE, without flash installed I could not see the captchas on my comp. On another one I could see them, but not read them correctly (I tend to have general problems with captchas like the TE). I described the problem in http://forums.wowace.com/showthread.php?t=16226. Some things still seem to need fixing.
Anyway, I grudgingly installed flash with flashblocker, but I hate Curse for it and I will leave the site as soon as possible. Question remains, why WoWI is able to implement the new regulations without annoyances and Curse obviously can't.
Downloading from that page works. The rest of the site is hit or miss on whether or not you get a connection. It will be this way for a couple of days.
Guess what? Since I installed flash, WoWI is not working anymore ...
God I hate this stuff.
How do you function on the internet with out flash and java? 90% of websites base functionality is flash and java. Granted some of it is php stuff but alot is still flash or java.

Well I leave javascript enabled, but I do not load flash. Frankly, my life has been a lot better since I did. No, I don't run flashblock, I completely disable flash.
I can't remember the last time I hit a site that needed Java.

I have Flash and Java disabled at the global level. If a particular site needs one of those plugins for something I actually want to see/use, I enable Flash and/or Java for that site only. I do the same with inline frames; 99.99% of the time a site uses inline frames it's for obnoxious moving ads... coincidentally those same obnoxious moving ads are usually Flash. :p
I think "form follows content". People with interesting content will find a appropriate form for it. Flash might be appropriate for some content ... lets see ... for pages about programming flash? But for the rest it's only annoying.
I happily ignore every website that is not usable without flash. People who are not able to transmit their message without graphic garbage ask to be ignored.
I would like to do the same with JS, but that is not always possible.
I wonder why WoWInterface isn't using Flash too. At the moment WoWAce works without JavaScript but actived download-Flash-button (only the download Flash button will be loaded) while at WoWInterface I have to to enter the ReCaptcha (even if JavaScript is enabled; and Java is enabled too but it won't load). And seriously Flash is much better for that purpose because there is no need for Java in this case and in addition Java *heavily* increases the load time of a webpage.
WoWI is using java btw.. the entire thing is autodetected. So im gonna go with a browser problem on your side that is preventing the flash object from loading so it falls back to using javascript.

WoWI isn't detecting flash for me either, with or with out no script. (WoWI is set to allowed anyway... *shrug*) But what ever, I think I only had to input the captcha once.

There are some times when you just *must* use flash. For example, if you want to copy something into the clipboard. File uploaders can usually be done cleaner in flash than in ajax as well for inline stuff. And of course, every streaming video system (except netflix) uses flash, but I think that's just a case of it being the only viable option currently.
Frankly, I wouldn't hate flash if it was like java, only used where necessary. The problem is that 99.9% of the flash content out there is useless shit. Of course, I blame advertisers for this.
Javascript, on the other hand, has become a staple of everyday internets. Call it "web 2.0" if you like, but frankly sites that use js well are nicer than even the best of their js-less counterparts.

I am with Tekkub with this one. If Flash is used when needed or useful, that is OK. However when advertisers insist on using banner ads that coded in Flash, that what raises my hackles. Java and Flash are not bad, it's what the code is used for that can be an issue.

Completely off topic but god I miss linux. I should probably just back up everything and get rid of windows completely.

WoWI has been totally slammed however they have got their lite page up:

grow up please
