Well, of course you can pay humans to do it. But I doubt someone paid humans to spam a very inactive guild forum - if someone did, I seriously question their business sense!
Still I can agree that captchas can be annoying, some are hard even for real live humans to read!
Hey: send all your data to captcha.net and fill out some stupid form.
You know, you could just enable Flash and use the flash download button. I haven't seen one single captcha, because i disabled my flash blocker for wowace.com. Alot simpler. I've heard of reports that it only works with Flash 10, but using anything older isn't really beneficial anyway.
If there are any issues either with the Flash or with the Captcha (if you don't want to/cannot use Flash - although i really commend it, its so much nicer then the captcha), ckk and Kaelten will fix those as fast as possible. Try contacting them directly, preferrably on IRC, or post here.

Hmm ...
I must install Flash to download my own addon without any recaptcha.net/whatever-authentication? hmmm strange strange .... but: I do not want to install Flash just to download my own addon ...
Flash or captcha. Thats just the way it is. Unless you want to help funding the increased traffic that WoWMatrix caused to Curse. Or come up with a better solution just now. Maybe a Java widget?
You did complain about sending data to reCaptcha, which you can totally avoid by just using the Flash widget. Something had to be done, for a long time now. Finally something is being done, and i'm sure you would hate any solution that isn't a pure and direct file link (which just isn't possible if you want to protect it).
Kunda, we get that you don't like reCaptcha.net. That isn't the topic of this thread; if you want to continue posting about how much you dislike them and why, please start a new thread.

Even if I could see the CAPTCHA at all, this would be an issue. Many CAPTCHAs are too small for me to read easily, and do not scale well with zooming because they are low-resolution images with intentional distortion. Having to pass one every time any of the ~200 addons/libraries I use is updated is simply not workable.

I have Flash 10, but clicking the Flash download links doesn't do anything.
With the patch hitting today, the timing on adding the CAPTCHA was really terrible. I'm now going to have to do SVN checkouts to get the updates I need for functioning addons... and I guess I'm just screwed for anything that uses a Git or Hg repository, as I'm not installing clients just to download those. :(
I'll point ckk in your general direction, maybe you can work out why its not working.
I tested a bit myself, and it appears it behaves completly erratic in the Opera10 Alpha. It seems to be fine in Opera 9.
While i understand the apeal of cutting-edge (running Firefox Nightlies myself), maybe use a stable browser?
I'm not sure if i can provide any debug infos for ckk/Kaelten to make it work, or if its simply a bug in Opera10 right now, so, i dunno.
Thats right. The Captcha is just the fallback. If you have Flash, you'll just see a Link in a flash widget, and on click it'll download. It really looks nearly like before, except that the font is a bit different, and that on right click you get the flash context menu ;)
@Phanx
I got ckk to reproduce the error on his system, and he will hopefully fix it soon. Appears to only happen on windows, thats why he didn't get it before.
Edit:
It may have improved a bit, i still get weird behaviour in Opera9. I can download a file, but when i want to click a second flash-link on the same page, i get nothing. Navigating to another page, or just reloading the current one works fine.
Hope it lets you download too, Phanx.
But I'm heading to bed now, crazy EU land has a long night of maintenance before we can actually have fun with the patch.
It is the end of the wowace repository if you are an addon author and if you are using the repository here.
You want download your own addon?
Hey: send all your data to captcha.net and fill out some stupid form.
captcha.net/whatever is harassment at it's best for any addon author here!
And maybe the above "person" should read up about reCaptcha :P
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recaptcha
'the' what? 'the "above" person'? ohhh
Sorry, but you have no clue what I'm talking about.

Using FF 3.0.8 and WinXP.

Also, keep it civil.

Typing the first is enough :P
(it doesn't check anything after the space)
Well it's something... 50% less typing.

I was a bit puzzled by the .64, but i went with the 10, ha! :)
/me retests with Opera 9
The good news is, i can reproduce the bug now in Opera 9 too, wonder why it worked before, maybe i was on crack, lol :)
I'm trying to get ckk to fix it
