But maybe it sounds interesting for some mod-developer who would present their mods in German language too.
I search for translation tasks to support mod teams especially bigger and widely used mods because I was amazed when I saw that there are so many damn-useful mods without any translation into other often used languages like German, French or Spanish.
I think that there are many German wow players who would be very gratefully for a good translation.
And with the translation into another language beside English Iâm sure the number of users would grow for that translated mod.
I have learned English basically for five years in class.
In addition I learned 2 years in advance class.
So Iâm sure that there aren't any problems for translating from English into German speech.
Surely I don't expect any payment, because the good training is payment enough together with the knowledge to help a big number of players.

What you can do is to actively translate mods for authors of addons you use. Look at the code, figure out what needs to be translated, send in a translation file (zip it up and attach it to the addon's thread) for the author to include it in the next update.
I'm quite good in translation word phrases or text blocks grammatical right and in the correct sense.
When I look at some already finished Translations from English into German I feel the wish to rework so many parts because there are countless numbers of mistakes.
But nobody is perfect and somebody who uses German as mother language can see the colloquial mistakes more easily.
The point is that I have absolutely no experience in programming.
So I don't think it's a good idea if I look on my own at the code and the first problem is that I donât no how to do this without a good explanation.
I thought more in the way that the authors who are interested in this translation offer send me phrases and text parts via e-mail and I translate it then to send it back.
As I said before.
It is only a good meant idea and if it makes more work at the end forget about it.
I just translated PhanxChat (kick me if something was translated bad or wrong ;P )
and the biggest problem I see is that it's nearly impossible to get everything right without using the mod yourself.
I compared my translations to what was done for Prat or Chatter
and some stuff was translated pretty much in the fashion of Blizzards localizations (which really suck most of the time).
Lots of things are translated correct and pretty good,
but if u see what the actual mod does when you use the option the explanation is just plain nonesense in German
and should have rather been completely rewritten instead of just translating it.
If I had more time besides University, Bachelor Thesis and Work I'd translate more mods as well...

For a short explanation (assuming that the mods use the "standard" way of doing things):
Open the addons folder (the folder you copy into WoW/Interface/Addons). If it is already prepared for translations, it will usually have a file called "localization_deDE.lua" for german translations (it could also be "<addon name>_deDE" or inside a folder called localization, use your imagination when searching for these things... ;)). Now comes he tricky part:
These files usually look something like this:

L["something"] = "Translation for something"[/PHP]
If these lines aren't yet inside the deDE file, you can usually copy them from the "enUS" file and edit them accordingly.
Or it could look like that:

GATHERER_TRADE_MINING="Minage";
end
[/PHP]
It is a bit tricky to find out the correct format to use, and even trickier if it doesn't have such files available with all texts used. Just ask here if you need further assistance (At best just look at an addon, and if you are lost, ask here how you should do it. Just remember that some addons can't easily be localized because of the way they are programmed.)
Best thing to do, don't code.
Find the localizations in the addon, copy them into another text file, translate them there. Then send em in via Emal or by opening a ticket for the addon.
Also, Use escape code instead of the the special letters. (and i don't have a reference link for that stuff :( maybe someone else does?)

I second this request. I like being able to understand translations for Spanish and German locales, the escape codes make my head hurt when I review the locale files. :p
I've had no issues with localizers going UTF-8 and in fact for the languages I know it's easier to verify if the translations are sensible enough without launching the game and going through all the menues/text items.
I'm strongly in favor of UTF-8 over escaping, escape codes are so 80s really when we didn't have anything but ASCII :P
reason for escape codes is so that editors n' ppl don't fubar everything... better safe than sorry :|
How to do it: Create placeholder files for every locale. Make sure your placeholder files are saved in UTF8. When localizers want to touch your addon, they will open the file in UTF8, edit it in UTF8, save it in UTF8.
I know many good addons in German language, which I would love to understand, say have Swedish or English.
Btw QuestHelper, I believed is in many languages, including english, german, portuguese and swedish. The first addon ever I saw in swedish.
To translate from German into English isn't as easy as translate from English into German in my opinion because there isn't such latitude I have when I translate from English into German.
For example we have at least three useful words you could use for the English word "rank".

But I think at the and I have to work together with the author so it would be better you persuade the author to translate it together with me if you aren't the author.
I figured out that one of the biggest problems I have with the translation is that I can't see in which context the words or phrases are used when the Add on works in game.
This cognition showed me that it is absurd to think the "good" and useful translation starts and ends with translating descriptions, phrases and words in the code.
In my thinking the most important step is to get a "Translated-Beta-version" of the author after I sent the translated code back where I can see on my own how my translation works in game to correct mistakes and failures.
Only after I correct these "Translated-Beta-Version" I think it is ok for me to publish the Translated German version because I want to create high qualitatively finalized translations and not "Only code-based translations".
Communication between the translator (me) and the author is one of the most important things to safe the quality of the German version I think and I hope the most authors who want to use my offer are thinking equal.

At the end I have to tell about a little accident in my e-mail box.
I get at least 5 spam mails per day where English speaking traders want to sell me medicines or Sextoys, whatever...
My e-mail service at web.de put those E-mails automatically in the spam folder because there works a three way spam-filtering.
Yesterday I deleted every e-mail in this spam folder without looking what kind of mails there are stored- How I ever do.
It was luck when I detected today that one of the spam-mails was a mail of an author who asked regarding my translation offer.
I don't know why the Filter-service put the mails into the spam folder. But now I began to look at the spam mails again if there are Mails from authors.
But maybe an Author sent a mail and now it is lost.
Two mails reached me, one from [email]rism@bsquare.com[/email] and the other from [email]mangusd@bigfoot.com[/email]
If somebody wrote a mail and the mail is lost, I want request you to write the mail again.

I still need much more advices, explanations and descriptions and I have to learn much more to translate safely within the code without destroying the code, but together with the explanations of the authors in the E-mails it helped my very much to translate within the code.

Sometimes I only have time to look in my E-mail folder and not this Forum here like in the last few days.
Therefore I wrote at the beginning to write me please an E-mail to "Nightsquash@web.de" if you want to use this Offering.
I was very busy in the few days with Rismizner's Add on project "SpeakinSpell".
I think it wasn't easy to be the first Translating-project but after hours of working and adding new Ideas and Speeches I have worked out a final German SpeakinSpell version.
And of course I think that I have learned many things about the Lua code in the locale files so that I can work faster and faster.
Rismizner taught me a lot of things, so I want to say Thank you, Ris!
At the moment I have started to work at the Broker_XPRate -project together with the author Gramg.

That's what I've been using since I started doing localizations...
