oh, sorry, I'm a Mac user, so I have no idea what WAU really does. All I can say the updaters I've seen that run on OSX/Linux don't support such functionality.
FYI addonpkg supports the -log option and the ability to archive addons, as well as a staging area that is separate for the installation directory so you can check the addons before you install them. Unfortunately it's a command line tool and more unix than Mac like.
Not that this will be worth much, as it appears... but running the upgrader and having no clue that this whole split thing was going on has, in fact, broken several of my Ace mods... or, at the very least, seriously hampered their usability.
Included in this list are ArcHUD2 and Cartographer_Herbalism/Mining/Fishing. Rolling anything back at this point seems like it's going to be an arduous process. As, even within the major mods that switched, not every piece seems to have made the change over.
I also haven't seen much of an "official" word from either of the main coders for the projects explaining what is going on or what the end goal is. This just sucks as an end user, but I suppose there's little complaining to do as most of us haven't paid dime one to use these products.
I just wish their was a better way for this to have happened and, I'm honestly still a bit confused as to why any of the Rock projects still remain on the WowAce site. It would seem to make more sense to simply move that project off into its own world as to avoid the current state of things. The Ace2 version of the mods would simply have remained in the last state they were and anyone who want to move to the new environment afforded could have done so seperately.
Just my $.02.
PS - The current setup window for Rock addons isn't very becoming or easy to use, IMO.
Put Rock at wowrock.com.. Let ACE be ACE! I want only to use ACE-addons and now out of nowhere my addon-folder is full of rock-librarys since my last WoWAceUpdate(Please note "Ace" is in the name).

as an Ace fanboy you should know it's "Ace" .. not "ACE".
Sorry.. Ace then. =)
I have seen many write both Ace and ACE so I wasnt sure. =)
But anyway. I dont think it is a very good idea to mix Rock with Ace. Either it is Ace or it isnt.
I will try and remove all the Rock-addons,which snuck in during my last update, and keep my Ace. I'll simply have to use the old Ace-versions of them... :-/

I think a better move would have been to help out develop Ace3 instead of creating Rock.
Ace3 or Rock.. Not both plz.
The same discussion over and over again...why do you even bother?
It's not as if it is any difference to you on what kind of framework the addons you use are based on. Just try to convince yourself that CKKnight knows what he's doing, the Ace3 team knows what they are doing...just install the addons you want to use, let the libs from auto dependencies roll by and don't worry...
just don't ... don't... i've seen this before, just don't it won't help and won't do anything productive. let it be about his delusions and afterwards we can move on.
@OrionShock: You're right, I just couldn't resist after reading posts like these over and over again over the last days...but oh well, you have been there yourself lately haven't you ;)

But why have two librarys for Comm when just 1 would have been enough for example? Oh well... I'm just sorry so see things fall apart that all.
Since i dont really understand this maybe you can explain for me.. Why is it better to have addons based on many different frameworks and librarys instead of just one? That is my big question for you.
well ... Ace2 went the way of Cosmos... and the makers of ace2 have personality differences and want to play with their own toys and not share with everyone. Thus we have Bits and Pieces of unusable Ace3 and a Fairly-Stable Rock (read Rock has had more time to develop than ace3)
the Framework itself is not the issue here, the problem is the Libs.. and not even so as they are / will be ported framework Neutral.
The answer is not to "break" the developer tools / paths ... the answer is to educate the masses.
Typical, arrogant, open-source community attitude. Let's disregard how 99.9% of our users actually use the application we provide. Rather, we will continue to insist upon our own idealist ways and "educate" them to use the software the way we think they should, even if it encourages you to do otherwise.
Using tags and branches is not a new concept and is employed by essentially every serious development effort on the planet. This is not some massive paradigm shift being proposed.

It's not like the old versions of the addons disappear.
Which reminds me I need to get my automatic SavedVariable / Addon backup schedule started again. One of things I haven't set up on my new computer.

how did ArcHUD2 brake...?
as for offical word.. check out jira.wowace.com.. that's where the devs have been.
Rock is staying currently because this is where it is.. i wouldn't want to see it leave.
sugestions on how to improve the rock config window (and not converting back to Dewdrop Menus) can be feed to the author also though jira

I wont mix!

... ya so... the Author of the Rock Framework is one of the Main Authors of Ace2... iirc he wrote most of Ace2

yeah, porting libraries that currently require Ace-Event and Ace-OO to LibStub (so Rock, Ace2 and Ace3 can use them) isn't easy.

This thread is now on notice.

Ps. Taalas I like your sig. Orion, not bothering is a good idea. (I mean, I may end up taking your advice)
