You'll never see an addon labelled as "Dongle" because it simply doesn't matter.
When I created my only addon way back I put the Ace2 label on it because everyone else did (actually most in the TOC was copy/paste) and since then I haven't thought about it. Maybe it would be better for Ace2 if all those label was removed. I guess it's all up to the authors but i should be the same thing as avoiding addon names that starts with Ace.
Anyone who's been in this project long enough knows that I've always vehemently detested the idea of the -Ace2- tag, and it was added to both Clique and PerfectRaid multiple times. I got sick of my addons being changed, zipped up automatically and being in the hands of my users before I could even get a chance to revert the change. The -Ace2- tag does bring a level of recognition to the project, but its just a matter of difference. Even if you removed it from in-game, you'd get the people who think ONLY ace addons come from WAU and if it's not on WAU its not an Ace addon.
The tag has no problems on its own, but combine it with users and it gets nasty =)
Dongle will eventually meet the same fate. Even now there are fanbois that (until now praised Ace2) detest Ace2 and praise Dongle.
Just watch #dongle a while and you'll see it. Nothing to be done about it, tho', it's human nature.
Nothing survives the contact with a human for long.
Except I've fought that attitude since the very beginning, and I will continue to do so. I may be fighting a losing battle, but I will absolutely continue to fight.
As a user, I don't really care what libraries my addons use, as long as they do what I need efficiently. I will admit that due to the convenience factor and discussion, I'll visit here looking for a mod before I go other places. However, that's really more due to a) thinking that playing with betas is fun; and b) I like to read the development discussions. At this point, there are a few authors whose addons I'd try regardless of function, unless it's something I obviously can't use at all (like a class-specific mod for a class that I don't play).
But in the end, it's about users and perception, and most users don't bother researching and educating themselves to find out if their perceptions are correct. That applies to many realms, not just addon libraries. Clad, I sincerely hope that you can beat the fanbois down.
Browse through all of my posts and you'll find out. ;) JK - the same way I always seemed like a "ninja" poster to you. :) Fast reading, fast typing, and lots of patience. Being a teacher doesn't hurt, probably, either. :P
Back to the Ace/Dongle discussion. :) I don't care what my addons use or what coding basis they use, as long as they're coded well, work well together, and don't run me back up to 100MB of memory (ouch, those were bad days...). :)
yea I dont know why to be honest, I have one or two addons in mind as the culprit but i havnt taken the time to figure it out. I have a ton of spare ram and my computer donst flinch so its not high on the priority list.
I will let you know when I figure out who the culprite is, but 80 isnt the highest its gotten.
personally I holding pitbull responsible for some, due to the fact that I use all the options enabled (powerspark, interactive lines, visual healing, ect...) but I am also assuming that ther eis a few other in there to.
EDIT..
WOOT!! first post on a new page :) now I fi could have just gotten first post on page 100 in the ui screens thread...
No trolling though! ;)
