I recently started a guild with some fellow mates and we plan to start raiding soon. Now, we talked about required addons and the words BigWigs and oRA2 just flew out of my mouth.
They asked, why not CTRaid and Vendetta? Now, I didn't know what to reply since they're probably ok addons (never tried 'em). How shall I convince them to use BigWigs and oRA for Karazhan raiding.
oRA > CTRA
nice modular design
friendly on ingame kbps
more efficient use of code
Load on Demand, only loading things you use
no big ugly menu, nice and simple
BigWigs > DBM
bigwigs stays true to what a boss mod is, a boss mod! BigWigs will not give 'hints' of what to do in fight, doesn't give you battleground timers and nonsense(these should be for separate addons) doesn't give you raid tools of which half are already in ctra/ora
Bigwigs syncing system is a lot more efficient, in dbm you will find nearly everything in synced, bigwigs considers room designs and combat log ranges before deciding whether to sync an ability
Bigwigs keeps its 'non boss' stuff external, like bigwigs_cthunassist, there is no reason for this kind of code to be in the main module, dbm has several features that some people think is 'nice and handy' (like timing boss fights and scanning health for whispers) bigwigs thinks it has nothing to do with a boss mod, it is just bloat.
and last but not least, SVN! we update bigwigs nearly every day, with new features, bugfixes bossmods and the likes, there is no need for you to update, but you can if you want to, it makes sure the latest features are released as soon as they are coded. found a bug? come on irc, tell someone, get it fixed usually then and there, no waiting 2 weeks for it :)
Indeed, that last point is a very valid one. We're on IRC pretty much 24/7, and always available for direct, personal questioning if you need help or have something to report.
If you don't want to use SVN, our auto-generated ZIPs are updated every 20 minutes, so even then you don't have to wait long for a fix or new feature.
oRA2 and CTRA work fine together, and use the same communication protocol.
BW and DBM does not.
I meant oRA2 and CTRA as you said, thank you AND thank you funkydude for saying what I couldn't :-) PERFECT, I'm sure I'll be able to convince them now and I do agree, especially because of the last point.
The whole point of oRA and BW is CHOICE. We don't take kindly to people DEMANDING we use one certain addon.
oRA is designed to work seamlessly with other player's CTRA, and give you the power to completely disable features you don't want or need.
On a similar note, Bigwigs is designed to filter out other BM spam, let you pick what you want to get warnings about, give more intuitive warnings where possible (timer bars), and as an added bonus, sync with other users who are in range of events you are not in range of.
The whole intent of both mods is to make your raid leader THINK you are complying with his demands, but give you the power to choose for yourself.
On a side note, if your leader demands that annoying KLH Threatmeter, I have a tiny addon named KMFDM that can help ya out ^^
Things like these should not be required, but if raider insists he doesn't need them, where in truth cannot function properly without them, there is certainly a deeper problem =P

Ok, but they should work and synch fine together?

What? That depends what you mean.

Who in their right mind would use bossmods with Deadly in their name. If a bossmod is deadly, don't use it :p
Ofcourse any opinion is biased by the one giving it.
