I've been trying rather unsuccessfully to increase my fps in raids, I can't seem to get more than like 15 fps in high activity settings, yet I can get almost 100 fps in quiet areas of org. I would think I should be able to get more out of my comp.
3ghz intel p4, 1.5gb ram, 256 mb nvidia 7800 gs. I don't 'think' its my addons as I've tried varying degrees of turning them off and it doesn't seem to help, any ideas?
I did that about 20 minutes ago... I lose maybe.. 1 fps with all my mods on, 15 with everything off, 13-14 with everything on. Just seems like I should get better than that, can't figure out where the bottleneck is.
Edit: If this helps any, this is a hardware report from everest
Lower all you performance options down as far as possible, save for Seeing Distance(can't remember what it's called). Your game will look fine and your FPS will increase. Hell, I hardly see a difference on my computer with specs tuned all the way down.
My lag does not though, I've turned all addons completely off and I gain... 1 fps at most.
Aceunitframes actually is depreciated forgot to delete it after deleting ouf :p.
Xad doesnt do what I want.
KC the last time I tried it did way more than I wanted and takes up way too much mem.
Onebag causes massive memory churn opening and closing bags, baganon does not.
bouncing between natur and hostel because hostel doesnt do everything I want.
elf affects the need/greed/pass window, not loot frames :p
Tell someone to fubar2+ace2 keepitcool :p hehe
I use theorycraft only when I'm sitting down deciding on new gear :p
You problem might not have to do with the game at all.. are your video Drivers up to date? and if your card is replacing an older one, are all the previous drivers removed? Im sure i saw your problem on the World of Warcraft forum. If i find it, I will post the link.
I don't really think it's the game at this point, which is why I posted that hardware log. My comp should be able to do better than that, I would think, anyway.
I'm using the newest nvidia drivers, deleted all of the old ones. I almost think it's a hardware bottleneck, which I'm just about willing to replace, if I knew what to replace.
I only have FPS issues in Naxx.. I have a similar setup to yours, and I honestly don't think Blizzard did a very good job of optimizing Naxx for performance. All other 40 man instances are smooth as butter for me, for the most part.
On a somewhat related note.. Is it normal to hover around 30-40 KiB/s increasing memory usage during combat in raids? As soon as combat stops and people stop doing stuff, it settles back down to 0-2 KiB/s. Should I work at lowering this? I was fiddling with some mods during our naxx raid tonight trying to get it lower. Disabling NECB and OneBag seemed to help a bit, but it could still be better (I much prefer Bagnon now even though its not Ace'd. It doesn't continue to eat up memory like Onebag does after the initial load).
During boss fights in naxx for example, garbage collection would happen a minute or two apart, causing a fps hiccup each time, which can get quite annoying to a control freak like me :)
I've tried increasing my own framerate (which was around 9 in OG before I started). I had the highest graphic-settings, a really high ress, and played in window-mode with full-windowed. Note that I used the same addons before and after this increase.
I turned down the graphic settings (which have already been suggested).
I lowered the ress a bit (later changed back, as everything got so small).
I don't use full-screen window (as I noticed the FPS decreased notably when it got full-windowed).
