I have mixed feelings about the move. Not because I admin another UI site...ask anyone about my indifference and love for the UI community. WoWAce members are the most intelligent programmers in the UI community, bar none. I just can't help my feelings, so I'll explain.
When OGaming took over wowinterface, many people had questions. The rumor was that the Ogaming network was owned by IGE, Playerauctions, Thottbot, etc. With IGE already owning sites that tell them which mobs to farm, now their "monopoly" on the WoW community increased with WowI. IGE is the single largest Gold buying/selling website, who employ thousands of people (many in Asia) to "farm" money and items throughout the MMORPG community.
The WowI devs said "not our choice" etc etc. The admins do a really great job over there, and is a great website. The smoke blew over and in the end most everyone was happy as clams.
So is the main reason for moving the site funds? WoWAce.com is privately funded, and Ogaming would be happy to foot the bill? In doing so, they gain many more hits from some very intelligent programmers, growing another branch on the "monopoly" tree.
Again alot of the IGE business is based mostly on WHOIS information about domain owners. The whole thing smells funny, but technically you can't see where the smell is coming from.
As a disclaimer, I volunteer my time at worldofwar.net. I am not employed or compensated in any way by them or the loadedinc network. This has nothing to do with my opinions above, but I just wanted to make the point.
Devla: It was my understand that we're simply moving in with WoWI's hosting people. Ace isn't being taken up by OGaming or WoWI as a site that's maintained and funded by them, we're simply moving to a more stable hosting facility. As added bonus we can whine at Cair if shit hits the fan like it did a few days ago, since she's around more than Kael is usually.
