FWIW I just wanted to toss out there that the hosting plan at my provider is insanely good, the service has been excellent-- and to top it off they've just added SVN support to the provider. So i'd like to extend an offer to those people who are hard up for space, or need an SVN server.
Kael, if you'd like to talk to me about migrating, or even thinking about it.. let me know-- I can set you up with a subdomain and account for you to play with, and see if you're comfortable with it. While the panel itself is only under my control, all database, shell, ftp can be granted to individual users (you in this case). The svn server supports an unlimited number of accounts, and we could (likely) get a trac running alongside it as well.
Just some thoughts =).My current plan gives me:
20Gb of space (It grows each week by 160 Mb).
1057 Gb of bandwidith (Not that anyone needs it, but it grows by 8 Gb a week)
for about $10.00 a month.
And there are really no other restrictions on anything else, with shell access (mmm.. BitchX and screen).
Not trying to convert anyone.. but I have more disk space that could ever be needed, and don't mind hosting for people who could use it. Sites being hosted here include:
1. That sounds like a decent deal. You also might want to check out http://phpwebhosting.com Same basic cost $9.95 but pretty much totaly unlimited space, mail, traffic etc.
2. I've checked into drupal after seeing it mentioned in other threads here and for the life of me I really can't figure it out. I've got the basic install setup but can't grasp the concept of how to configure it. You can find my install at http://tutor.rosemontinnbb.com/ If you have any pointers or someplace I can read up on it that are writtin in laymans terms I'd appreaciat it.
Clad, I've done some research about your host and I'm not impressed. It is true that the deal is great but as these great deals get oversold more and more their reviews are going down.
Many of their users are reporting extremely slow times. Site outages, and more.
The deal is great, but there is no way they can offer those kind of prices without overselling their current shared servers. There are several big names in the hosting industry doing the same thing, and their servers are getting overloaded.
Very true Kaelten. Phpwebhosting is working fine for me and my BnB's web site but it's all straight HTML pages with a little bit of SSI. Sure I can do full php, mysql dynamic web site there but for my needs for the BnB I don't need all that. Something like WoWAce over there might not work as well with the buisy forums etc.
Kael, I understand your concerns, but I'm also a customer with a reasonably high traffic website and I haven't had issues with downtime. I've been keeping up on their reviews as well.
I understand your concerns, but *gasp* I think you're overstating the importance of the ace server.. and I think its burning you in the pocket-- I just don't think that's fair to you. I sent this out for more of a general posting, not necessarily for you. For most hosting needs, I'd reccomend this host.
