A new launch utility has been created to enhance your entry into World of Warcraft! The Blizzard Launcher will provide up-to-date news and important event- and support-related updates. In some regions, the Blizzard Launcher also scans for Trojan viruses and third-party cheat programs and notifies you if it has located any on your machine. In addition to providing you with the benefits of additional anti-virus protection, the scan that the launcher conducts represents another security measure to protect your World of Warcraft account information and gameplay experience. The AddOn button should now properly show on the character selection screen for players using custom interfaces.
World of Warcraft Client Patch 1.8.2
General
Fixed a crash in the German client.
The new launcher looks interesting... I'm downloading now. Wonder if it'll be good or just another of blizzards lame attempts at something great...
It just reminds me of the old EQ loader.... just another window to look at, with a few links to various internal websites..... oh there is a button to play on test... so I guess thats a bonus.
... So now they've started bundling an Anti Virus application with the game launcher?
doh.
I thin this is because of the issue that happened with their program running in the backround tht cause many players to end their member ships. This way you can bypass the functionality but if you get caught. You're done!
It seems kinda useful with the news and all but I think it's pretty much pointless. I wont use it, except to check the news every now and then.

I doubt they removed Warden, I think this is just added to check even more.
I wonder how much Warden is part of how unstable the wow client is...
(and the weird network issues)

Not much I guess... because I a) nearly never have network problems and b) wow is stable like a rock for me ... even the crashes after many reload ui's stopped for me.
The launcher itself "feels" a bit useless (no "visible" scan process, nothing... just an info page) ... especially with the hint in the faq how to bypass the launcher ;-)
I have to play devil's advocate here and say that I think it's a good thing. My firewall agrees with their statement that it doesn't transmit any data, basically it seems to be a pre-emptive warning that scans for Blizzard's list of bad programs and tells you before you go in, that way anyone can avoid a ban and has no reason not to. Their publicization of their protection processes is something they should've done from the start in my opinion. This is long overdue.
I'm also happy that my beloved Nostromo's drivers didn't come into question. *Cheer!*
There was an extensive post in the general forums about what the new launcher does (one thing of note was connecting to the registry on any computer you are mapped to and have local admin rights on). The launcher itself didn't "phone home", but l ikely passes information to WoW to be passed on =)

I just think it's good that they're actually telling us now, so I can feel safe from the ever-watching Warden. ;p
