When I played, the only thing I could use was Linoleum, nothing else was small enough for me. Nothing else was visually clean enough. I'd have loved CastParty too if it were as clean and easy to read as the UnitFrames in City of Heroes (which it isn't, not by one hell of a long shot).
Thus, the only thing I could bear as an information management system was an all text system. The bars in Blizzard's game never did anything for me. Further, they never actually ... behaved. It's hard to explain but my mind always judged things differently to the bars, it's like they operate on some funky visual logic that throws me off. Maybe it's the lag Devla spoke of, I know not.
With the numbers though, everything was always clear and easy to read. I always understood what the game was trying to tell me. What I would have done had I stayed is rewrote version 1.6 (the version I liked best) as an Ace AddOn. I would've got rid of that damned always open onUpdate too, somehow. Ska is an awesome ideas person but his love of onUpdates is scary.
There are community versions revised by not-Ska and most of those are 1.7 from what I've seen and I really didn't like 1.7. You should find the official Linoleum and grab 1.6, the official Linoleum post on Curse does have screenshots.
I only use the small additions of CT_Mod. I use PLayer EXP Bar under my portriat too, but I enjoy the Blizzard ones with picutres. I can't remember peoples names a lot, but I can remember what they look like at least.
Im using Minigroup - and actually I dont notice any lag. Maybe because I've been using for a long time and gotten used to it, or perhaps because I use Benecast to cast my spells, and thus dont have to switch targets to groupmembers.
Now that we have this talk about UnitFrames. Rowne and Kaelten wrote about a UnitFrame project over at Cursed-Gaming (think it was in the Timex comments) - is that something you guys have been working on, or was it just an idea?
I would be happy to help test them if the project ever got far enough to have something worth testing :)
I really respect your addons (and Ace in general) as the best addons out there, so it would be awsome to get UnitFrames along the same lines. Minimalistic, small clean code, but stil flexible and usefull.
