Firstly, I apologize for the downtime but there was something I simply had to do, it had been too long. I bought 20 DVDs and prepared myself for something I like to call Project Backupzilla. A complete image of all the partitions of my hard drives, minus the stuff that I can reinstall with great ease. I even had to put some downloaded games on there, like Half-Life 2 (legal, via Steam) and City of Heroes (also legal, got it via the Memorial Day offer).
Well, what can one say after such an ordeal? What a nightmare! I'm glad it's done. Backing up Windows XP things from my other partition wasn't fun at all. The other partition runs a slower, older OS that I use for emergency purposes only.
Did I use 20 DVDs? Yup. Bloody hell, 3am yesterday I started this and it's what? Almost 7pm now. Have I slept? No. Am I just that much of a geek? It's very likely! So whether I'll hit the sack or take up the daunting task of replying or coding right now is rather teetering on the brink of indecision, happily leaning one way and then the other. I'll see what happens and if I pass out, then I pass out. Total zonkage may occur.
Anyway, it gave me some time to do some thinking on numerous things and I have a post I'd love to make on a General thread somewhere but it's nothing related to Ace and I love the company here so I was thinking; are you ever going to make a general patter and whatnot forum that's not Ace-related, Turan? Perhaps one for RPG-related stuffs only. As I said, I've been thinking and I'd like to share the results, as completely zany and pointless as they are.
Well, I figured I'd update you because there's been no server for a long time and a worrying lack of obsessive Rowne posting I'd surmise. Well, I'm back and I'm alive and full of pist and vinegar. Well actually, I'm alive and I'd hope I'm not full of pist and vinegar. That would be really bad.
I thought we should keep it game related and probably roleplaying game related and weigh up new additions as the occur. The reason I wanted an RP forum in general is because I get RP game ideas that I'd like to share with people and get feedback on, rather than just letting them rot in my texts directory.
We should probably create the forums on an on-request basis, wait for someone to request something and then weigh out the positives and negatives of doing so. If having such a forum as I requested is a bad idea then no biggie.
I have catching up to do. When I wrote this, Rowne is up to 195 replys. I think I'm going to have to just start posting a "LOL" or "!!" or "What the.." to every single post that is present on the website, in hopes of competing with him.
We are, afterall, competative by simply the nature of our beings. And as I support the notions that rating systems and # of downloads does not do justice to a particular addon, I must find a way to compete non-the-less.
So here it is: the game that could be the end-all to end-all games: the test of truth, justice, and the posting way: the big kahunna of the internet world: the Trump tower of the Ace forums.....
Hm. You know what we must do? We must post so much that somehow one of us manages to create an inverse post number or perhaps a decimalized post number. Then we'd see Turan with akin to -6,835.0000001 posts, exposing him for the cheater he is!
Whether it's actually possible to get an inverse or decimalized post ratio on phpBB is highly unlikely but reality hasn't gotten in my way before! At least there are always delusions.
Really? I always figured it was a fun word, signifying defeat. I didn't ever see anything derogatory in it. I blame the Dan & Mab comic partly for this however as one of the characters displays a Ker-Pwnzd! sound effect in combat, it just seemed like a rather fun word to use. I suppose, like any word in the English language it's just a matter of being that the meaning of the word is one part its true meaning and two parts the meaning projected onto it. This is why communication is hell.
For example, try telling the public media that yiff is just another way of saying hello for Vulpine roleplayers. There'd be no end of inuendo and "hello" misconstrued in every way possible with the most lewd of intent. I had no derogatory intent behind my words though and I'm sure that was quite evident. It was intended to be light-hearted and silly.
If it really is such a bad word though, then I apologize.
Again, the English language is hell. If you actually meant that I mock myself by using it. Of course I do! I'm all about self-deprecation. Haven't you noticed how frequently I insult myself and talk like an idiot? I live for shrinking my ego.
That's precisely why I use it. I keep my grammar to levels above those of the average savant and I'd have to say I'm well-bred and read. I don't want to always look like that however so I'll often just throw in randomness and deprecation just to break things up a little. Variation is the spice of life and all that, one doesn't always want to be any kind of elite. Thusly, if I were to use pwnd then it disallows too high of an opinion of oneself and this is something I am more than happy with.
