Talent broadcast in a Communication Library? why?
because nobody would use it if it's a separate addon?! uhh right!
MAKE A SEPARATE ADDON/LIB!!! or just delete it thx
!!! It's NOT the same as god-damned armory! RockComm talents broadcast is INSTANT! armory is not!
otherwise:
Please add some kind of twink name retrieval code in RockComm. That would be very funny for all RockComm based addon users like Pitbull/Cartographer/CowTip. (and hey that's a lot;)
Default broadcast setting SHOULD always be on!
Imagine all the possibilities! hell!!! funny
!Scrooge on wowace.com-svn? why not?

How about not broadcasting your stupidity on this forum and NOT broadcasting your talents ingame?
I like it, too. I'm not ashamed of my spec. I don't care that someone knows what it is. I don't care that someone can see what it is without taking 5 seconds to look it up. Someone will know what spec you are usually by watching you play anyway.
For those who are unaware, RockComm, a library within the core Rock framework, has functionality enabled by default to send your talent data to other players. The functionality can be disabled via the framework's in game configuration menu.
Why is this functionality included in RockComm?
The basis of this decision involves the network effect: The more users sending out their talent information, the more useful the functionality is. RockComm is already embedded in a few popular addons (PitBull, Cartographer), so the decision was made to stick the talent sending functionality into RockComm to take advantage of that large user base. The end result is more people sending out their talent information.
Why is it enabled by default?
Simply put, to rely on user ignorance. Most users do not typically heavily modify their default settings. So they're less likely to discover that the talent sending functionality exists, and more importantly, turn it off. The end result is again, more people sending out their information.
Yes people, Tuller is right! The evil codecreator who tried to destroy your gaming experience earlier with the weapon of mass destruction known as 'Rock' is now coming at ya in even more cunning ways. Your enemies will become allknowing and destroy you with the greatest of ease because they know your talents! Rumour has it that these specs are not only sent to other players... They are being broadcast to all of Black Temples bosses.. Yes people, forget downing Illidan EVER... 'HE IS PREPARED! (thanks to RockComm)'
Gotta love Paranoia :)

I think it's a great feature. It saves you the time of having to get whispers asking, "What spec are you?", "Can you tank this?", etc. It also saves time when putting together groups, you can (with ExtendedLFG) see the spec's for the Warriors, Priests, etc when you do a who looking for a healer or tank. Now you don't have to waste your time asking that 70 Priest if he/she can heal since it says right in the Who window that they are shadow.

I'm sorry if this sounds too harsh, but that's an ignorant opinion. You don't need a protection warrior to tank, or a holy priest to heal, until heroic instances (and raids of course, but we're talking LFG here). What makes the difference is the gear, not the choice of talents.
This is a perfect illustration of what I was commenting on earlier today in the Extended LFG thread, I find it surprising (and sad) that I get a confirmation so soon, and on these boards.

Ignorance isn't valid here. I fully understand the healing ability of a Shadow priest and the tanking ability of a Fury Warrior, but did you ever think that the Shadow Priest doesn't want to heal or the Fury Warrior doesn't want to tank? Apparently not.
I hate people assuming I want to/can tank or heal on my Balance druid. I rather respect the speccing choice of every person. If someone is spec'd something I'm not going to ask them to do something they didn't set out to do.

Maybe my point was misunderstood. Surprisingly perhaps, I had thought not all priests want to heal, not all warriors want to tank, etc. My main is a warlock, I _love_ it when shadow priests don't wanna heal and instead are boosting my pewpew by quite a bit! I do respect how other people want to play the game they're supposed to enjoy, including balance druids.
But apparently you don't want to "waste time" asking people how _they_ wanna play the game, which is ironic considering the open-mindedness you champion. What about my retribution paladin alt then? Last time I DPS'ed in an instance was in RFC, and I'm level 67 now. I do wanna heal, I even spent all the non-critical points in the holy tree, but hey, I'm retribution. According to you, seeing as I'm not holy specced, automatically means I wanna DPS and rather than "waste time" asking, better just ignore my entry in the LFG tool.
I do have a 70 priest too, which long after hitting 70 was still specced shadow, for whatever reasons. Most instances I did at 70, I was healing, and I do enjoy it, I have other chars to pewpew with. But apparently, since I was specced shadow, means I wanted to be DPS, so why "waste time" asking?
I'd prefer to be whispered or invited to group, and settle the question of what role I want to play in that group, rather than be judged by the choice of talents.
Sorry for the length, the off-topic, and the tone.
When you are using LFG you are already a step down from a guild/friends group. You are getting unknowns. Friends and guildmates you know what they are capable of. When they want to run as a cross spec you know from past experience that they aren't a liability.
In a PUG (when you'd be using LFG) you already have the cards stacked against you. You don't have a clue what the other people can do. When playing in spec you are more likely to be able to perform your job than you are when you are cross speced. I'm not saying a shadow priest can't heal, I'm saying a shadow priest can't heal as well as a holy priest. Same for any other cross spec you care to name.
So, when you already have at least 1 strike against you (you are in a PUG with at least 1 unknown player) do you want to add more strikes by getting players who aren't at their best?
Will you take a cross spec? Depends. How desperate are you? How many cross specs are already in the group. How long do you have? How long have you already waited? Does anyone know them? Etc. This is just one more point of data. Can you find the same data other ways? Sure.

Fair point. I would assume that if you're specced shadow or retribution you don't want to heal since 9 times out of 10 that is the case. Saying that, however, there is a comment area in the LFG tool that you can put that information in.
"He's spec'd shadow, but he says he will heal if needed."
If you don't utilize the comment system, then yes, I am going to assume that your choice in talents is your play style choice. If, however, there are no other choices left to me I would whisper you with something like "I see you're shadow spec'd, but we need a healer. Would you like to heal for [instance name]?".
1. Being in a PUG makes that run that much harder. No one knows what the other can do, you're just pieced together, trying to get by. Sure I've had good Shadow priests heal in a PUG. I've also had shitty PUGs with shadow priest healers and fury warrior tanks.
2. There's a comment area there. Say that you are willing to heal, and you will be considered to heal. Warriors are *expected* to be tanks, no one knows they're fury specced. What do (should) they do? They put "dps" in the comment field.
I think for each shadow priest that is annoyed by people seeing they're shadow, you'll find one fury warrior relieved they won't get "tank this!" tells.
Setting notes is what I actually did with Tuller when leveling up. Here's some example conversations I got after I set one:
The bane of hybrid classes. :\
Of course people will still send you whispers asking you those things, but it's hard to force everyone to grasp the concept of reading before they click. I would hate to see all the BS they have on their computers.

He's addressing two very valid questions, providing very self-evident answers for those few who can't put 2+2 together.
All the associations between those two extremely simple observations
and the creator's nature are entirely your own.

apology accepted. Now I don't have to tell you to shut up. :) (which I was seriously considering)
