When I used wowace updater today everything went smooth as usual. But once in game I got a new minimap icon called Rock configurator. This look pretty much like waterfall, but I never said I wanted it and it keeps bugging me with errors in both Pitbull and Cartographer.
Alright then, for those not wanting to use search.
Ckknight, the creator of PitBull, Cartographer, CowTip, Parrot and Fubar (and a tun more sorry for forgetting some btw), decided to change libraries used in those, he is now using Rock as framework, no longer Ace2. This comes with its own GUI settings panel, Rock Gui, which is what is displaying the icon.
Using any of the now Rock-based addons, will require you to use LibRock (and the other Rock libs forming the framework) just like before when you needed Ace2 for the aforementioned addons.
Wanna use Pitbull and Cart, then you're stuck with Rock - to keep it short.
Ugh... yet another framework? I thought that's why ACE existed in the first place. It also appears the author decided not to allow us to remove the icon from the minimap. Surely he didn't intend to undo all of the great work he's done in the past...

So we now need the following in addition?
LibRock-1.0
LibRockConfig-1.0
LibRockConsole-1.0
LibRockDB-1.0
All you need to do is use the addons you like and don't give a !#?%&?## about whats inside. If there is a part of the addon you don't like suggest what should be improved (features).

Pls give the transition some time. Putting the minimapicon back on the FuBar is already being worked on, as stated by CKK in another thread.
it means to sit back and ignore this whole Ace3/Rock confusion and drama... use addons as addons - let the devs worry about whats under the hood
hehe, my kinda thing then :)
But, I don't understand the libs and if the are needed or not. I just "one of those" that use wowace as main addon place and use wowace updater to update them. When I now have Rock installed and bugsack with Rock errors (pitbull and cart related) I'm getting confused if installed librock etc will fix my problems.

That didn't quite work for me... I use FuBar, Cartographer, PitBull, and CowTip. In order to get things working "as expected," I had to download all of the Rock libraries externally. Downloading the apps with externals embedded spewed errors all over the place for me.
Strangely, before installing the libraries separately, when I disabled CowTip (where most of the errors originated) PitBull stopped working correctly.
I seem to be running error-free with full functionality now, but if anyone's got suggestions on how to get back to running with embedded externals, I'm all ears. :)
Yeah well end users should never have to worry about that at all. But addons from this site should always be considered beta so stuff like this will happen sometimes. Not to sound mean but... you should not use addons from this site if you don't know how to fix problems like this.
Same for me. Downloading the "new" addons just leads to lot of error messages on the screen. And I updated like 5 minutes ago. Think I'll stuck to older versions of Pitbull, Cartographer and Fubar til this is sortet out.
And no, I don't like having this rock thingie. But meh... guess I'll have to because I really like to use the mentioned addons.

If you're replying to me, don't worry about it. I'm perfectly capable of dealing with errors and know perfectly well that the WAU tool pulls what's considered to be beta code. Just pointing out that "don't worry about what's inside" isn't always a viable option, that installing the libraries independently resolved the errors for me, and that doing the same might work for others as well.
Y'all spend a lot of time telling folks they shouldn't be using your code, and make a lot of assumptions in doing so. I realize it's frustrating when people complain about errors in beta code, but seriously ... folks need to relax around here.

just run embeded (ie just download the file as is off of files.wowace.com) and don't worry.. but bitch about missing libs.
"Tourist-Lib requires BabbleSpell-2.2" is a dev that didn't set up his addon up correctly on the SVN.
A collection of mods bases on the same set of common libraries should be more efficient than they otherwise would be;
I can get all my mods from the same place, using the same method, with updates often daily;
If/when Rock mods should become 'unavailable' from here, then I'll stop using them. There are ACE2 mods that are not availble here that I don't use - purely because they're not here. Ckknight, as the author can do what he damn well likes with his own mods. He may not win any popularity contests, but he may not care either.
Incidentally, all of my 'Rock' mods are now working (after being in mod hell for a couple of nights). I simply had to uninstall/reinstall them using WAU.
Wow, that's... unimaginably retarded. An addon that heretofore has used Ace as its framework, distribution method, has enjoyed the attention that the Ace community has provided, suddenly decides it doesn't want to use Ace anymore?
How long do you think it will last on this site if it doesn't use Ace? Then what? When I run WAU and it's not listed there anymore, then what? I have to go to yet another site to download his addons? Thanks for nothing.
Ummm... absolutely nowhere does it say that SVN access is restricted to developers that use Ace or Ace2. Ckk's addons will continue to be in the SVN and in the WAU until he decides to remove them.

Even though u may disagree with his decision, I don't think CKK 'suddenly decided' anything. He simply thinks this is the best way to go with his addons. And why would you think this puts him outside of the Ace community?
Furthermore: calling a wellrespected addon developer 'unimaginably retarted' is uncalled for (I was tempted to throw your 'unimaginably retarted' phrase right back at ya, but that would take me down to your level) and should atleast get you a warning from a siteadmin.
