i read a lot about the cross faction communication limitations in wow and that blizzard does not want players to talk to the other faction. although i think in some cases this restriction seems placed wrong, since for example pandaren should be able, because they are talking to each other in the starting zone.
so just to find out what can be done with the current language system, i looked into more detail. players alread write stupid phrases like **** and ***** which does not really makes sense, but is a possible translation. so currently, there is only room for abuse, since a normal conversion cannot be made. if people want to blame the other person, there are already several ways to do so (create lvl 1 etc).
i wrote now an addon that allows two pandaren to speak in pandarian with each other cross faction. the problem is, that both need the addon for this /say communication to be interpreted in a easy human readable way.
so my question is: is there any legal way to distribute anything in this may or make changes that it does not violate the terms? some limitations in the addon? i do see some legal addons that work as translaters (Tongues), but have those limitations to not work via cross-faction.
would like to hear your thoughts about the subject, since i am thinking of improving the current addon to work even if the other person does not have the addon (so an addon just for myself).
Cross-faction communication is not allowed, and is considered an exploit. There is no "legal" way to do something that isn't allowed -- it's just not allowed, period, no exceptions. If you want to talk to someone on the opposite faction, add them as a BattleTag friend or create a character on their faction. If you write such an addon anyway, and Blizzard finds out you are using it, your account could be suspended or banned, since you are indeed breaking the rules.
if you add a friend with battleTag, and this friend is playing the opposing faction, is that not considered cross faction communication? and if you write to your friend, asking him to talk to the person on the opposing faction, is that cross faction communication? where is the line? what are the rules if you can do it anyway?
That's actually a good analogy. There's no way to buy illegal drugs legally, because buying illegal drugs is not a legal activity, period. This is an official Blizzard fan site, so you'll get the same reaction if you asked about speed/wall hacking, private servers, or anything else that's Not Allowed.
In any case, I'm locking this topic, as the question was asked and answered, and there is no further discussion to be had.
