Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this. I'm hoping to get a bit of direction.
4.0 changed some sound effects (for the worse, imo). For instance, Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning now have a horrible Bzzt! sound effect. I don't even remember what their original sound effect sounded like, only that it wasn't this! Also, shifting into Shadowform for spriests used to have this creeptastically cool sound effect, and now it's a boring Shhhk! sound.
I've been using addons like "Make Guns Sound Like Bows" and "FishPing" for ages now, and it seems like I should be able to put something similar together for Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning/Shadowform.
Thing is, I'm not sure where to find the original sounds. My laptop isn't updated to 4.0.1 yet, if that helps.
Also, it seems like it would just be a matter of putting the desired sound effect, as a .wav file and named correctly, under Data\Sound\Spells (just looking at how the addons above work). Is it really that simple, or am I missing something? I've never done anything like this before.
And any idea how to find what the files should be named? The gun sound replacements are named things like GunFire01, GunFire02, etc. Would Chain Lightning be as simple as ChainLightning?
At a cursory glance it looks like shaman_thunder.ogg in Data\Sound\Spells
atleast on the Beta client, which I imagine something like that would not change.
Edit: its the same in the live client, also although they're all in .ogg format, it does accept .wav as replacement, atleast in all the ones I've ever tried (yay for getting rid of obnoxious noises)
