Maybe such a thing exists, I dunno, but I can't find it if so. I'd like something that gives me a clickable icon to target an enemy healer any time one is found nearby. Having the heals per second or total heals or something similar would be nice, too, so that I know which to click first.
How not really useful? Do you not PVP? It can be a turd to find priests and paladins among big groups, and that's if you even notice they're there. Leave the healers alive and things are a LOT harder. Kill them quick, much easier.
I'm kind of thinking like how Healbot works. It sees when people take damage, and then lights up because, if it saw it, they must be fairly close. I suppose maybe you wouldn't have the icons themselves until the second encounter...
Maybe something that reads the combat log, and if it sees someone healing, puts up something that just does /target healer? The main thing is just giving me a name. So-and-so is healing (blink blink blink) and if I click the blinky, it does /target on whoever the healer is?
i've wanted something like this for a while. imagine something akin to vuhdo or healbot, only it would be populated by enemies instead of friendly units. it could get the names while out of combat and set everything up so that the secure actions wouldn't be a hinderance. it would then check the combat log for activity and associate that activity with the enemy buttons. it might not be perfect in terms of range detection, but i think it could be useful.
In arenas you already have the arena frames for your enemy, spotting the healer among them is trivial. For BGs, you could parse the names of the BG stats panel, couldn't you? But thinking about big bgs, and that the buttons can't overlap .. thats a big part of your screen going to waste.
Range detection could be handled by opacity, as in most UFs.
Anyway, you might be screwed by rogues and kitties.
no, i meant range detection in the sense of knowing if an enemy is near you. with allies, you can get ranges but i don't think you can do that for enemies, so there'd be no way to see if there's a healer near you.
another idea along these lines is to attach a marker of some kind to nameplates. like a healer icon for anybody who's healing and a dps icon for anybody who's dps. that could be done for enemies AND for allies. for allies, you could base it on spec. for enemies, you could base it on spells cast and/or the scoreboard.
Basic limitation is that your going to have to leave combat before the actual buttons can be added, or moved.

This is why.
...why...what?
Targeting is considered a Secure Action. Thus can only be modified (moved, added, renamed, reAssigned) out of combat.
Because of this limitation you would have to leave combat if a new healer was discovered in combat.
You keep asking to target "the healer". The addon cannot assign a name to "the healer" to target while in combat.

LOL, I'm a BG healer, too, but I'm also strongly against losing... :)

That's why healing in non-tree form in BGs are a bit less efficient but more likely not to draw attention.
Or in battlegrounds, watch that chart that shows total damage and total healing done?
yeah, it's a bit like pushing on a string, but if you're only doing pvp where names are unique, then it's not quite so bad.
