The basic idea was to create an emote system that was quick/useful/and intuitive.
while it was possible to change the key bindings..everything was based off the "V" key. for voice. pressing it brought up the first tier of the command tree.
A simple pop up window with letters and the emote they link to. "G" for Global, "C" for compliment, "V" for very quick,"A" for attack, "D" for defend etc..
now each time you make a selection on the list (pop ups make this handy) it brings up a new list with new tree choices, emotes, or both.
as an example. lets say your defending a flag or something and suddenly your under heavy attack. You hit in rapid succession VVH and your toon yells out "HELP!" or you just finish a match and you type VCG and you'd say "Good Game!" or you totally destroy (or not) someone and then hit VTG (Voice-Taunt) "I am the Greatest!"
Of course wow emotes would be different (and in all honesty if blizz were to rip out their emotes and replace with tribes it'd be a massive upgrade) and therefore the various terms would be different.
i did find a listing for the Tribes voice trees, tho its not the best. here's a link
Hi everyone, thanks for the positive responses so far. 2 things. first, I looked at the various drop down menu addons out there and they're nice, but what I'm suggesting is a bit more robust. second, while i do have some SS i then went on youtube and found better..video.
for those who are leery about clicking links, i searched for "Tribes 2 Demo"
the lions share of emote tree usage is in the begining. but you can see and hear exactly what i am reminiscing on. fair warning....the rest of the video is full of pvp by the enthusiastic but unskilled.
excuse me, im going to go die gloriously to mortors and rocket launchers before bed. be well.

Once a keybinding has started, it's somewhat tricky to maintain input going to the same addon. But it's easy to do if the first keypress opens a popup menu, which can then hold keyboard focus.
You don't need to click the menu at that point; the remaining work can still be done by further keybindings for each entry on the menu. The menu doesn't need to be obtrusive, either, just some little thing off in a corner someplace.
The popup menu system is precisely what I'm talking about. but what i'm not really interested in is a single menu, that would be disorganized and actually not as intuitive nor as quick as it may seem. Particularly if my mouse is involved. When one is involved in a real time challenge, cognitive thought process actually becomes distracting where as muscle memory and linear thought progression establish faster reaction times. Athletes refer to this as being "in the Zone".
I think Xinhuan sees what i am trying to describe. I just don't know how possible it is, nor how easily such a system would be to create.
Nowhere did I specify a single menu. I think nested submenus is what everybody is in fact assuming you want to use. None of that makes the keybinding proposal invalid. (Not to be rude, but if you *do* want something other than nested submenus, then *say so*. Be precise in your descriptions. Vague anecdotes about athletes don't really help paint a picture of what you're trying to find or make. If you see a single menu but prefer submenus, then say "submenus" not "more robust".)
I doubt you'll find an existing addon that does exactly what you want. It would probably not be difficult to write one, or modify an existing one. Creating popup menus -- nested or otherwise -- is a little weird at first until you understand Blizzard's reasoning behind their design, after which it becomes pretty easy. If you decide to try that, feel free to post code snippets or questions here!
my apologies farm. i misunderstood. I guess i feel a touch of frustration in trying to describe the visual in a non visual discussion. The real question tho is this. is there anyone out there who'd be even remotely interested in this?
I loved them while playing Tribes2, but I don't know whether I'd use them in WoW.
If you can find a screenshot of something similar to what you want, post it! Shoot, you could even kludge something up in MS Paint, if it would help to communicate what you're trying to get.
IIRC, doing the keypress sequence in tribes2 popped up successive pseudo-menus down in the corner, similar to the individual menus on the link you posted. Not quite the same as default submenu behavior in WoW, but probably doable by some extra coding.
