Personally i really like the boss sounds in the most instances, but i can't find any configuration where boss sound are played in an enjoyable volume and all those annoying sounds like deep wounds apply, block, parry and so on aren't played. When i disable "Sound Effects" or turn down the sound volume both events get muted respectively soften. The only sounds i can still hear clearly are UI sounds like BigWigs Victory, Attention or sth. like that.
So is there already an addon existing or would it be possible to play all those boss sounds over the Ui sound "channel" (however named) or is there any configuration out there I've missed?
You'd need to make billions of copies of an empty sound file and rename them all to match up with the sound files that are normally played for Deep Wounds, block, parry, etc. There's an "addon" on WoWInterface that includes such files with the appropriate names already assigned, though for a different category of sounds than "not boss sounds". I don't remember the name, but if you search for "sound" or "quiet" or "silent" you should find it; it was added/updated within the last few weeks.
After using this for a while I think this is really handy, but it's rather annoying that new sounds like attack sounds of all ulduar mobs or colloseum mobs (on PTR) still show up. I know that I just have to insert a dummy file for every sound I dislike. But I doubt the author inserted every dummy file by hand. Do you know any script or a handy method to insert all new sounds which are missing?
If you keep the Master Volume slider > 0 and the normal Sound slider at the minimum, you can still hear sound files played via PlaySoundFile while all game sounds are muted. The 'best' way to do this would probably be imitating boss sounds when they're triggered by combat log event / chat msg monster yell... But that's loose use of the term best since it would still be pretty extensive to do.
