Primarily I miss the ability to click a button to say "The flag carrier has left via X" or "Location X is under attack, please help!".
While it is true that I could make macros to say some of these things there are so many possibilities that a clickable UI seems more efficient. The UI was also great help as it could be clicked during GCD and hopefully the rest of the team would then come and assist. Due to tooltips on mouseover it also meant that I didn't have to remember another score of keybindings that were only useful on battlegrounds.
If a new version was made and the buttons could also be bound to keys that would, of course, be awesome! :)
Sadly I lack the knowledge of lua to code this myself, else I would. I miss it dearly.
Sounds like you need AlarBGHelper. It does even more than that.
Thanks for the idea, but I have already tried AlarBGHelper a few times, the most recent being within the last week or so.
On my setup the mod throws a number of lua errors.
Also, I find the UI ridiculously large (it occupies roughly 1/3rd of my screen - I run larger that 1280x960 with UI scaling down to the smallest setting, but forget the exact res in WoW and cannot check atm as the servers are offline). While it is true this full size UI minimises to a toolbar, the toolbar is still very large and randomly maximises back to full size. PvP Messages UI was only roughly 150 pixels across and allows itself to be scaled even smaller if that is your taste.
If it is possible to permanently shrink the scale of the Alar mod I never found out how, as the random resizing and errors were too frustrating and I ended up deleting it. The version I used had a resizing handle at the bottom right (I think) but if you used it the mod reset itself to full size almost immediately.
I see from following your link that it has been updated again and so I will have another look as soon as the EU servers are back online. From the comments in the thread it would appear that the problems I experienced are still around however.
My feeling is that the author is trying to do too much without getting some fundamentals right first.
For me this would be:
1: A reasonably sized and dependable UI, preferably with scaling options but I could live without this if the basic UI was smaller in the first place.
2: Good chat reporting capability (various locations, attack/defend options as well as flag locations etc.
Reports of boss health, "cap the flag now" etc. just seem to be icing that is not needed if the basics don't function properly.
Don't get me wrong here. I respect the guys that write this stuff. There are some really excellent mods out there but this mod, as I have experienced it, just isn't for me.
Maybe it is time to get know lua? It is just that spending 6+ weeks getting to know a new language/API and code a mod seems a bit of overkill when folks out there can already code. :)
