I've spend a few more thoughts about the hole concept and found out that you should be able to easly adjust "The Meter" to other classes as well. The energy part could be replaced by mana or rage. The other indicators could also show other stacks of spells (eg "Improved Shadow Bold", etc...). For non DPS classes it should be possible to change the DPS indicator HPS (healing per second) and so on. :)
I'm thinking of something more numerical and color coded. Why? Because I think in numbers more than in bars, even if you don't :)
I.e., [Snd|DP|CP|Energy] all containing colored #'s, esp. SnD turning red when it reaches 0 (since it should always be up). Things like CP, Deadly Poison charges, and Energy can have more broad spec related interpretations. I'll probably put a Combat spin on them :)
Thanks, the Rogue-Meter will be my next project. Of course, we got to think of a more snazzy name in the meantime.
For good karma, I'll be sure to write the display lua separately so more inspiring mod authors can change the visuals without recoding the mod.
now all that has to be done is make it customizable so that the 3 bars and the center icon can be anything you want.
as for circular bars i already have the code done :) (have smicircular unitframes) so i might look into this if i get time (still need to put on the finishing touches of my unitframe's though (damn status icons)
I've worked on a little proof of concept mod (nothing more than a day's work) and I can't help but keep noticing that unit frames mods and buff/debuff managers are going to ultimately absorb its functionality.
As I look at more things out there, I think I'm going to abort.
a dps display with customizeable events... like "change color if dps is over 1800 more then 5 sec", "play sound if dps over 1900", "display sct warning when blabla"
stats_block already have a dps module... perhaps we need a tuned version to get larger penis
