you need to consider that damage meter mods are hefty mods, although an ace2 version would be somewhat more efficient (presuming your using lots of ace2) it would still be a hefty mod, but to answer your query, currently there is none.
what about using a Ace2 mod like Assessment as a replacement for SWstats.
I am using Assessment but of course I still get 10 other raid members spamming me with tons of SWstats traffic.
I am a noob on Addon traffic, so my question is; Does each game client receive all combat messages? I think the answer is Yes, and if u set the range to 200yrds, you will receive all of the combat data traffic. If my assumption is right, then Assessment impacts your own PC processing and doesn't impact other raid members, because it doesn't need to sync to others. Is this a correct assumption? If Assessment or some other local combat parsing tool does the job, why do players continue to hang on to the old tools like SWstats and DamageMeters.
Final question -- Does anyone know how I can stop traffic coming to me from SWstats users if I can't get them to switch? Using the tool FuAddonSpam, I noticed Swstats sending almost 3-4 times the byte traffic as other mods. I want to give my PC a break, because I think it has to process all of this traffic? or does it? Maybe I just receive it and ignore it...
I noticed the date after I spent the time to compose the post, then thought hell a question that is still relevant 12 months later -- figured it deserves a "jumper bump" -- ;)

Addon's generally have a main frame, they register the frame for various events the blizzard api exposes (spell hits, combat hit etc etc there are tons of events) then they parse/process the events to guesstimate what damage/healing/etc people have done.
Yes alot of combat events only fire (and thus are processed by your client) if you're in range. 200 yards range is the max range but on some boss fights people might be more than 200 yards away. The default range is ~60 yards.
Older damage meters sync (send their data via the addon comm channel) because everyone was running at 60 yards and sometimes even 200 yards you will miss events.
There are also events that only fire for the source of the spell/ability and not for everyone.
So basically all the damage meters incur processing of events on the client side, many sync their data aswell (a few don't).
Processing lots of events client side, having a large combat log range and receiving and processing lots of addon comm messages are all performance hits.
However on a modern computer (core2duo) with a decent internet connection it's not a big deal.

You can't do anything about it other than run less mods that listen to the addon comm channel and try to get your guildmates to change to a less spammy damage meters.
Its been a quile since I logged on forums, but I wanted to acknowledge the good answers to my inquiries, Thanks it helps me understand the good and bad to running combat meters / reports on less than ideal hardware.
bottomline: I need an upgrade to my PC (lawl)
