Hi there! I'm Dahr of Eredar - I'm the guy who created the Shade of Aran and Firemaw chants that (amazingly to me) got so popular a while back. And I am amongst the millions that bow down to the greatness that is BigWigs, right down to the Final Fantasy tune that plays when you beat a boss.
One thing though - over time, that 8-bit sound has started to wear on me a little. So, being the musical goof that I am, I thought I'd try and make a new one - same tune, mind you (naturally - what beats the FF victory song?), just a little more 'epic' sounding to bring that awesome feeling of beating a boss home even more. No singing in this one (I've tortured the WoW community enough I think :)), just a quick remake of the FF victory sound that I think, and hope, you'll enjoy.
You can download it here: http://files.filefront.com/Victorymp3/;9689012;/fileinfo.html - just replace this mp3 with the Victory.mp3 in Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\BigWigs\Sounds and you're good to go. (You should probably re-name the original, in case you hear mine, decide it sucks, and want the original greatness back. :))
I'm always looking for new and fun ideas like this to play with, so if anybody out there is looking for a little sound help of any kind for mods you're working on, I'd be thrilled to help out. It'd be really nice to give back a little something, considering all the help Ace mods have given me. :)
Lastly, to the Ace folks who made the mod for Aran using my chant a while back - I wish you could have seen my reaction when I saw it. I laughed my head off, and was very honored that somebody would take the time to do that. Thank you so much for making it, it really made my day.
Hope you enjoy the sound, and keep up all the great work, it is hugely appreciated!
LOL, the scary thing is that actually sounds good. I'm going to discuss this with the others, I'm not 100% sure about the jazzy end bit though. I think I might implement both so you can choose in the menu. Will get back to you.
Its easily possible to cut it down to ~80kb with 96kbit and cutting of the last few secs where no really relevant sound is. Getting it smaller without sacrificing much of the quality only works if you would remove the last drum at the end as you could cut off quite a bit more then and still have a acceptable sound quality with 96kbit going lower than 96bit hurts the quality alot though.
I can make it smaller for sure - I can definitely shave a little time at the end, and re-encoding it for 96kb is no problem. I'll also try a version without the jazzy ending that you can check out to see if you prefer it, which should be even shorter/smaller.
I'll be able to have something ready later today, I'll post 'em up here when they're done. Thanks guys, really glad you enjoyed it!
Would use the Short 96kbit version just because its 10kb smaller and the quality is nearly the same as the 112kbit version, the difference is barely hearable and people with shitty onboard souncdards and shitty headphones/speakers wont notice a difference atall
Thanks a ton Rabbit! Really glad you guys like it. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for other possiblities, and if any ideas cross your mind during new developments, please don't hesitate to let me know, I'd be thrilled to help out. Thanks again for all your awesome work!
