I checked the vid, but didnt really get what that fat red thing has to say.
First i thought: WOW when they made Gatherer as good as the new Auctioneer(it rocks like hell) ... but this wasnt what i expected.
actually you can make Cartographer look similar, by using hotspot and transparency. And maximize-simple minimap
What cartographer really really is missing is a way to find your nodes.
1. by a WKB or mobmap-style database view and search function.
2. persistent Waypoints. (maybe a way to lay routes or optimize your route)
3. improved display of node-clouds.
4. display lines/routes
Now i have to go and check Gatherer in game :-)) thanks for the tip
also, gatherheraddon.com isn't "dead", nor is the Gatherer addon.
huh ? I didnt say the addon was dead, would i have been able to view the latest Preview, then ?
But your answer was sufficient, since i could not reach their sites all of a sudden, neither of them. (norganna...) And i suspected my ISP had lost the connection to US, since all european site were accessible. Thats why i said "for me".
It took me a bit to figure out what those red line represent too.
Basically, if you look at it, the whole screen is the map itself, with icons representing the node. The main HUD rotate as you move, the red line represent the area you have been to. In order to see if a node is active, you will still need to glance up at the mini-map however...
I checked the "Hotspot" addon that you mentioned thinking it was something neat. But uhm, all it does is hide your main map as you hover you mouse over it...
The problem with transparency is that it will also hide the node icons. A simple HUD-alike would have all the node icons having the transparency of 1 alongside with your actual icon, while having everything else with transparency of 0. Then something to do with easier waypoint...
