The single biggest thing I miss since the advent of WoW 2.0.x is Sprocket. dreyruugr seems to no longer be around/active. I've looked at it, and I know fully well that trying to tackle this project is far beyond my current abilities.
Someone capable of it, please rewrite Sprocket for the current game? Such a wonderful, useful mod.
I'm not sure that using it in combat would be.. well.. possible. :(
I am not a coder (as you have seen me profess before)... but Geist works, and does a similar task that Sprocket did.
It certainly isnt as pretty as Sprocket, but eh does the magick, in combat as well.
I've tried Geist, and it's just simply not what I'm looking for.
As for not using it in combat . . . well, having it be usable in combat would be nice . . . but for the vast majority of what I used it for, actually not essential. I could be content with a Sprocket that wasn't usable in combat. Or perhaps a mix, with an out-of-combat mode for nearly all the menus that behaved like the old Sprocket, and a fixed-location "Combat" menu . . . if the secure pie stuff doesn't obviate the need for such.
I use Totemus, but I really don't like it. I'd like to see a nice simple popbar mod or two, and I had a really cool idea for a dynamic actionbar based off totemus's totem buttons...
When you drop something on the bar instead of overriding it would add it to the button's possible actions. When you right click the button a lil the actions pop out. Clicking one uses it and sets it as the default button action. If done generically everyone could use this... warlocks could put all their curses on one button, hunters their stings, chamois each totem... you could even do pots and water and blah blah blah.
The main reason I don't like Totemus and it's group of class-specific mods is they're not generic enough to add any item/spell available, and the buttons don't hide... I want popbars damnit!
And by all means, I'd love to see normal and pie popbars damnit!

Ive been thinking of making popbars for months now. Just never got round to figuring out the code behind em. I think we could be onto something here.
Could be a bar addon. Which has support for popbars and simply normal bars (actually just an options to leave a popbar expanded). I'll take a looksee. Would appreciate your help as always tekkub. I know Id learn a thing or two.
Lets pretend that I was requested by a friend to write something like this and that I'm considering it (though in this pretend world, it would be the first addon I wrote, so don't expect timely miracles).
Let's discuss hypothetical functionality and features, keeping in mind that I've never used Sprocket, have never done much in the way of GUI programming of any type (29 years of programming, just very little GUI programming), and in fact, can't remember using any programs that used pie menus other than "Planescape: Torment" which I played for all of 15 minutes.
The basic functionality is easy enough to follow. A popup frame with 8 hotspots (do secure frames allow for pie-wedge shaped hotspots?) that are mouse or keyboard selectable, with each hotspot either leading to a submenu or a terminal action. I don't see a reason not to allow for arbitrary menu depth, though that would complicate the config UI and burn a lot of memory if someone went too crazy with nested menus.
So, the top level menu would need a hotkey to bring it up, or it could always be up, though that could cause problems with the addon always consuming certain keystrokes (not a problem in the use my friend asked for). Other UI stuff will probably depend on what secure frames supports (hotkey to dismiss the menu, or just back out one level, etc).
Each node would need a way to configure it. Configuration would consist of
1) an icon
2) a spell/item/other action/submenu to invoke
I also thought of hotkeys, but that would probably be done as a global config, so each of the 8 directions always uses the same hotkey.
Obviously, a drag and drop configuration would be easiest, though I'd have to look around to see how easy that would be. Maybe have other special-case menu types or actions.
So, what list of actions would you want to see available? Casting a spell, using an item, and running a macro seem to be the obvious ones. Marking a target with a raid icon was mentioned.
My favourite uses of Sprocket (and also, the pie menus in NWN) were either non-combat or at least non-reactive. But in WoW terms, that covers casting spells and using items, even if it's not many spells or items, and I had AutoBar hooked into it which worked very well for me. I also used it for the micro menu commands, and to trigger macros. For example, to change ItemRack outfits.
Another good feature would be something a pop up wheel that's distinct for player, target (friendly or enemy), party, or pet. Buffs on party members, nukes on baddies, and rolled up newspapers for the pets.
Okay, so that narrows my list of desirable features to "Every damn thing you can do in the game". Sprocket was great fun to use.
Anywho ... there is a Secure pie, that wasn't merely a whimsical comment up there by Pastamancer. Although I laughed my tuckus off when I read it.
The first one rebinds the F key to open up a radial menu which you can use to fire off any of your first 15 action slots via 2 step bindings (1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 2-1, 2-2, ...), you can also mouse over it and click it.
The second creates a bunch of draggable 'unit headers' which you can click for a dropdown of ranked spells, and you can do 'cast on unit' with those - click the spell icon to not specify a rank, and click the rank number for that rank. It's not very pretty but it works. Note that you can move the headers around, and that the dropdown moves to the right header and operates on the right unit.
I dunno if it works, but that's the only contribution I can think to make. Perhaps not a complete Secure pie, but at least it looks like a reasonably safe pie plate.
First, go grab Totemus and use it witha shaman that has, say, an earth totem and a few spells for it. We've got 10 buttons total. Right clicking brings pops out buttons with many different actions. Clicking one uses the action and sets it as the left-click action for the base button. Same as Totemus's totem buttons.
Here's where I'd drastically drop the rest of Totemus's design...
* Config just like a Blizzy action bar. Dropping an item/spell/blah on a button adds it to the button's available options. Some modifier (ctrl-click?) removes them when the pop-out is open.
* Make the pies a popbar. The base sphere is all that's visible until mouse'd over.
* Allow for any number of spheres. Don't pre-fill ANYTHING. Be generic, unlike Totemus and it's other class mods.
Essentiall What I'm getting at is make Blizzy-style config, and Totemus-style layout and behaviour... all made generic so everyone can use it.
Hell, same goes for normal square actionbars. I'd love to have that right-click many actions per button design. I have tons of actions on the same cooldowns I'd love to group onto a single button yet "hot-swap" as I needed, especially in combat.
Anywho ... there is a Secure pie, that wasn't merely a whimsical comment up there by Pastamancer. Although I laughed my tuckus off when I read it.
What and where is secure pie? I can't find any references to it, and I'd be more than happy to use something that already does the job, or even just provides a good starting point (like those test templates mentioned).
I don't think I'd want to go so far as to make the left clicked action become the base action for the button, at least not in the basic version (I wouldn't be opposed to a fancier version, but it wouldn't be the same program). My main motivation on this is to let my wife enjoy playing WoW more. She's got severe arthritis in her left hand, so she mostly uses her right hand to play. She's a mean 10-key'er, though, so if we could set up an interface that mostly uses the numeric keypad for actions and spell casting, she'd be much better off.
On the other hand, I can see an expanded version of this kind of program doing just that. My focus will be on the nearer goal, at least for a while, however.
You can do some damn nifty shit with bindings now, you could give her access to a hell of a lot of shit with just the 1-9 keys on the 10-kay using sequences... press 1-5-3 to cast this spell on party 3.. 2-1-0 to cast somethin else on target... etc

But we have secure pie now!
Secure pie... hmmm, yummy.
On topic: I am almost sure that someone out there will pick up on a Sprocket 2.0. He just doesn't know it yet.

Should work for totems and a few other things, but doesn't work for everything like sprocket did (I think), so I'm still hoping for a new Sprocket..
Nowhere near the same sort of functionality of my beloved and missed Sprocket.

There's tekkub's link, a good thread, and also http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=35886005&sid=1 - one lovely thing about this thread of Iriel's is that it links to http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5492-State_Header_Action_Tests.html - and the good thing about THAT link is that it is a template for an AddOn ... oh, yes:
