idea:
Make a module to report your threat, no GUI at all, just send out the messages. Some people don't like to see it, some people just don't care; a leader/tank/whatever could have the list in case they want it up, with a gui module or KTM.
Probably an idea to run by the author, not ace forums tho.

Alright, thanks. Looks like I'm stuck w/it for the time being eh?
I told KTM authors about the great libraies that are parserlib and BabbleLib.
They told me they found the idea "interesting", but it doesn't seem they plan on using any of it :(
That's bad because it could really lighten their code :/
Need probably not, but you could say the same about all these wonderful addons(though there are ones I refuse to play without hehe). As a raid leader I know for a fact some people just arent good with aggro as others. So to solve that and to ease frustration I require ktm in guild runs. Now you could say boot the slackers and believe me the thought has crossed my mind sometimes hehe. We just arent that type of guild and take it easy etc. So everyone gets to have fun and we still kill stuff a little faster.
I feel KTM can help maximize raid dps, as people can visually tell how much longer can they sustain their damage, and when to just cool off. I've been raiding without it for a while, and we do ok, but when I used to use it, it was a very helpful tool.

Yeah, you take it SO easy you have a mandatory addon, nice.

We require 3 addons ora/ctraid, bigwigs, and ktm thats it. We don't require raiding, specs etc. Very laid back for the most part. Asking for just 3 things isnt much.
We had a warrior that complained no one else in the raid (specifically the tank) ran KLHTM, so he didn't know when to stop DPS'ing bosses.
The collective response was "lern2play".
As it stands, the only reason I run CTRA is because I lead a couple of raids, and it helps with management. When I'm not leading, I don't bother to install it.
This arguement is really sidetracking the thread, but saying learn2play is pretty ignorant. Knowing exactly how fine you can ride the edge between safe and aggro is a very valuable tool, and allows players (pro and otherwise) to push their dps to the limit, which benefits the entire raid and allows for quicker progress through encounters.
Should it be Ace'd? There's a few places it might benefit. Will it? Not unless the authors do, it's simply too complex and under constant revision to be able to clone it accurately by a 3rd party.

I push my DPS to the limit. I am #1 any time I can get a decently synched meter. I specced 15/31/5 for the sole purpose of raid DPS. I know how much I can push out, and I know when to scale back. Today was our first KTM mandatory run, and it actually caused me to draw aggro a few times before I started to ignore it. I was so busy watching those stupid little bars that I didn't notice the string of backstab crits that sent me rocketing above his threat.
And you know what else? The people who usually pull aggro on raids, they were still doing it. You know, the Hunters that go all out DPS and then feign after the Molten Giant sets its eyes on them, to leave the melee chasing the thing around while it beats down healers. Every raid has at least one, I'm convinced.
"Well what about the people that usually hold back?" you may ask, "surely they were able to DPS more, confident that they will not draw aggro". Wrong, most people that don't go all-out do it because they're skating through the instance. The slackers that never even place top 15, despite their constant attendance and steady accumulation of epics.
I'm sorry for the rant, I'm just not a fan of mandatory mods, the way I see it, if someone is incapable of handling their job in Molten Core, you stop taking them. It's really not a complex instance. Maybe there are a few fights in BWL where it could be useful, but from the way people talk, there haven't been any real aggro sensitive fights since BWL, and numerous guilds are clearing that without the crutch that is KTM.
/shrug to each thier own I suppose hehe. There's benifits to both sides really. With ktm I can ride the threat right below the tanks for the most part and never pass them. Without it those that suck at aggro control learn it or spend most thier time taking a dirt nap. What I find though is usually that over zealous mage usually pulls ony right before a breath and at least kills 1 or 2 other's with him.
We only use it on bosses I dont really care about trash. One of the things I don't like about it is I think it's useless on most trash fights.

Gotta keep in mind not all classes have instant threat reduction..
Mages locks in particular.
Rogue/Hunters can drop aggro if needs be.
However having said that I tend to notice that the threat monitor isnt always accurate so its a tough thing to rely on. Other times its been very accurate.
Then again Im a priest so I cant really comment :)

I have a 60 Lock, it's tougher than my Rogue, but you still get a feel for it. There's no good reason for making this addon mandatory is what I'm getting at, it's just not that useful.
It's very useful for boss encounters, not so much for multiple target trash (unless you set a main target).
It was extremely helpful when my guild was learning Huhuran and Vaelastrasz, also. It was its uses, but I do agree its not a 100% needed addon. Guess it all goes down to individuals.
I think the usefulness varies. Personally for vael it is really handy. You know exactly who is tanking next etc. Heals can switch right off the bat. DPS can slide right under the tanks without going over. Now some fights it's pointless to use. Just like everything to each thier own.
Now this thread was about something just cant remember what ;) o yeah sorry for derailing the thread hehe.

:) SnaFu does everything I need in a raid.
