I liked monkeyquest and uberquest... but so far my favorite is the Titan Panel Quest module. Its simle and intuitive...
Not very sure on how well its coded due to my lack of skills... but if there is ever a AceBar I hope somone ports the features over from TitanPanelQuest.
Rowne, yet another proof of our likemindedness, you scare me.... I was about to suggest QuestAssist :P The built in tracker is fine and simple, but too simple in that it doesn't auto-add quests. Also with my duo partner it's handy as he can track my progress easily, no "how many you got?" all the time.
Changes I'd like to see to an ACE'd QA:
- Option to add new quests to the watcher when you receive them
- Perhaps option to track party member's progress if they use QA with chat feedback as well... help reduce the quest spam in me chat window when I'm with my duo partner. Basically just supress their chat progress and add info to the Tracker. This wouldn't need a complex setup, just on/off and then it'd add the info if you're tracking the same quest and something comes thru on chat. I envision this looking something like:
That's a good idea Tekkub and actually something I support. I've always say that if an AddOn communicates, it should do so by actually doing things that the player is able to see rather than secret, bloated chat messages. In other words, in a new QuestAssist we could have it print to the frame but we could also have an option to show/hide the actual messages it's using because both AddOns would only need a simple strfind to recognize, parse and then know-to-hide these messages, whilst keeping them in a player-friendly format at the same time.
When any of my AddOns communicate, they work by this thesis.
Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly. The thing I don't like about most of the other mentioned quest AddOns is that they actually have more processing issues than Blizzard's own (which is surprising but true). For example, the original QuestMinion was a bitch on resources and should not be condoned, nor should anything based on it be. This includes Saien's version of it, which is just as bad as the original because he's barely changed a thing about how it works since the original.
If we were going to use a tooltip-QuestMinionish system then we'd have to completely re-examine how it works because at the moment, the Blizzard quest-manager uses new functions they added/changed in order to present a better quest information front, whereas the current QuestMinionish systems don't have any of that and rely on old, bloated methods. Some of those AddOns are absolutely huge and a good 50 times what they need to be in size. This is why I'm against them.
That I really think we need is two approaches, someone could Ace QuestAssist to keep folks like myself and Tekkub happy but perhaps another developer could rebuild the idea of tooltip quest AddOns and really get into the guts of how it works and make it better, after all, we have the technology ... *Coughs.*
You can never keep me happy, but I do have my short moments of sheer joy... like when I finished my bar layout using the Blizard ActionButtons and Visor then disabled Flexbar, thus improving my UI load time by ~4 seconds. That in it's self accounted for about 1/4 of my reloadui time (time from PLAYER_LEAVING_WORLD to VARIABLES_LOADED), or 1/5 of the time to completely reload and render the world (PLAYER_LEAVING_WORLD to PLAYER_ENTERING_WORLD)
I wrote up a little mod to time reloads... perhaps I should share it? A nice before ACE, after ACE comparison tool, if it doesn't already exist?
It has monkeybuddy.... no other quest addon has that.
MOnkeybuddy ftw.
Yeah I <3 monkeybuddy. The quest info on tooltips is probably my favorite feature.

perhaps someone convert both to aced version? :D

- Crocolisk Skin: 4/6 (6/6)
