Looking the new war effort page on WoW website for my server, I thought: what if this was in semi-realtime inside the game itself? So, I'd like to beg you (again) to make something , anything, that, when a user of the addon talked to one of the war effort masters, scanned the text and broadcasted the data to a chat channel. The same addon would listen to that channel and keep its local data up to date. And by issuing a command one would be able to see in the chat channel the most recent data for all items, for a group of them (for example, "Bars"), or for a specific item.
For those who wanted it, a secondary, graphical addon on top of that, would be a nice addition too. It should present the data as in the site, with categories, item bars and such, much like the skills tab in the character profile window.
If everything was coupled with a way for the character to track how much he himself contributed to the war effort, that would be perfect!
What do you think?
EDIT: This (these) addon(s) would be usefull even without the chat broadcast feature. One can have his own local data updated whenever going to IF or (where's the horde war effort happening? Orgrimmar?). The broadcast would be a nice plus but, of course, it's not at all necessary.
I really don't think this is worth a mod, defenitly not in my opinion unless the War Effort gets reset to start over for something about 2-3 months or so.
Well, I love databases and I love having the information I like inside the game. Alt-tab'ing isn't that cool. :) Also, such a mod could easily include a way to track how much you yourself contributed to the war effort compared to the remaining players. That would be very cool too!
Now, the event resetting a given number of times would be very nice indeed. Or else this whole thing could be made into a monthly competition between the two sides, with in-game prizes for the people who most contributed and to the whole side that won, maybe with NPC vendors paying more/asking less or whatever.

It seems us hordies on the server outnumber our alliance brethren a bit on the realm, at least it seems that way too me so that could be the reason :)
Another reason is that the Horde has to gather less items. 1,408,000 vs. 2,442,000. In absolute numbers the Alliance is winning: 317,090 vs. 205,080 gathered so far.
true they need less but Purple Lotus and Baked Salmon are probably some of the hardest items to get especially the last.
about the mod... at this time it's unknown if it becomes an event that gets reset on every update or on a timed basis. So far it still looks like a one time event thus the mod becomes unless after about a month on most servers.
I kinda like the idea... a mini-EXP style bar with total progress, hover over it pops up bars for each turnin, ally and horde. Communicates on a chat channel with other users to stay up to date. Too bad by the time it would take to develop, debug, and deploy the whole shebang would be over.
I might whip up something that'll dump out your last-seen values to chat though, just for the heck of it.
/em has a moment of inspiration
/em runs off to write up a quick titan plugin...
OMG, you've made it!
To those who haven't noticed it, tekkub has just released Titan Panel [War Bonds], which gathers the information provided by the war effort officers and allows them to be easily reviewed. Actually, the addon has already gotten a revision, being in version 2.
Thank you very much tekkub! I'm now a much more fullfiled uber-geek database fan. ;)
Now it's just a matter of adding AH scanning and features for world domination.
PS.: Okay, it's a crazy idea, I know, but is there any chance of adding that broadcast feature? I guess it might be done by adapting GathererShare's send/receive/hide functions or something like that, since that addon has been working flawlessly for me for about 3 months without the need of any update.
BTW, using GathereShare's own chat channel would be even better, so that those who already use it wouldn't need to spend another chat channel. The different header would ensure that other addons that use that channel, including GathererShare itself, don't get confused.
I noticed that, for some reason, the "my server" link I put above in my first post is redirecting to another server now. Either I wrote the link in wrong, what's very possible, or Blizzard's site is as chaotic as everything else Blizzard does. :) The correct link, or atleast the current one, to those one or two that might be interested, is Maelstrom.
It seems the current (v2) version os TitanWarBonds has a bug. Currently, when I click a mounted officer in IF, no scanning happen anymore. Actually, it only scaned once: the first time I clicked both officers just after installing the addon. No subsequent update of the data managed to be triggered after that.
Would it be possible for your to post a fixed v3 on ui.worldofwar.net, tekkub?
I've made some tests. If I delete the savedvars file, it's able to scan both officers, but after that no additional scanning is possible. So, my current workaround is to delete the savedvars file before going to IF.
