This was being discussed in the CTRA thread already by Cladhaire and others, and thought it may be a good idea to create a new thread for suggestons and ideas on this lone topic.
CTRA contains a channel communication system, which is extremely handy and practically mandatory for large high-level instances such as Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, etc. Another piece to this system are boss specific timers and announcements. I'm sure there are some other features that I am missing, but I am just giving examples to get a buzz going.
So, please feel free to post your thoughts...I'm pretty sure that many of you have thought "this feature could be done with Timex" or something to that effect. Share your ideas here, and maybe we can all collaberate on something great.
I think it would be a great idea to make an ace'd addon that mimics all the advanced channel communication stuff of CTRA. Basicly to players using CTRA it would look like you are also useing CTRA but on your side you'd have a far more efficent addon that doesn't have any of the CTRA bars and UI stuff except what is 100% neccissary.
This sounds sounds great, although I don't know how the MT target assigning works in CTRA, but I'm guessing it's using the CTRA channel... I'd say this needs to be supported, and for example given an event that can trigger a compitable raid frame addon (I'm supposing that's the best way to do it?). Same goes for various other information like the res-monitor.
Basically if RAIDCOM would support/recognize every function that CTRA sends via the channel RAIDCOM would fit nicely as a "core CTRA", where you can easely add the addons and the functions you may need. And, just to mention it, I'd love to see Xraid modified to support it.
Otherwise I don't think I have anything to add really..
Well actually one thing, wasn't there talk about writing an ACE addon far more efficient than "Sky"? That idea could maybe be unified with this one, considering they'd probably use quite a few similiar functions?
You have my vote. Since I changed classes, and I no longer need to watch peoples health, and I no longer use click casting to heal. So having something that'll use the same channel so it atleast seems like I have CTRA running would be hot.
just curious, maybe contact with cdmod team and ask maybe they want to cooperate on making AceAssist :) Maybe they want to optimize it too
In my thread (ACE CTRA) I think cladhaire mentioned speaking to one of the ct-devs already, but if noone here picks it up naturally it would be a good idea to let the ct-team know that there is demand for a "CTRA Core" without the extras.
I hadn't spoken with Cide, but with AnduinLothar about the concept in general (We were discussing comm libraries, etc.) The basic concept is:
I use XRaid.
I also use two other mods that use the CTRA channel to communicate (its passive and doesn't blow up when you send the other traffic, as well as being hidden by anyone who has the mod) and it would be nice to have a CTRALite that just provides the BASIC features for other addons to utilize:
* Track the MT list and expose it to the global enviornment, so XRaid could use it directly.
* Change channels based on the raid messages
* Implement /raready
etc. Honestly, you could pull all of the code directly from CTRA, and its reasonably small-- the trick is getting it to work when CTRA is also installed and having it work well.
I'm just horribly swamped at the moment, and won't be able to work on this.
