use for unit frames:
[list]evaluating the situation[/list:u]
Thats it! no-one should want to do something different with unit frames. Ok now we agree on that lets also agree on that the human mind is more capable of recognizing pictures, graphics, logos, etc better then plain text. Conclusion, we need unit frames with bars. two bars to be precise.
Now how would one compare two things (to evaluate the situation/outcome) that are linear? Put them next to eachother! good boy! and because we generally read from left to right well need horizontal bars aligned under one another.
Putting some color in would be a good choice. We tend to use the color green for good/correct and the color red for bad/wrong. Horizontal health bars of wich the contents - not the whole bar (remember, aligned, comparable) - shrink in size as the content wich it represents shrinks in size. I think using one that goes from green to red representing health, and one that goes from light blue to darker grey for power would be a good thing.
One wouldnt want to compare power to health. so align the health bars and the power bars next to them.
I believe the four other things we want to be able to see very quickly next to the bars (wich are the main things) are the name of the unit and the values of power/mana. Thus the layout i'd like to see best:
name hp/max hpbar powbar pow/max buffs debuffs
You might be thinking by now, "OMG this guy wants to do away with all my nymbia's perl unit frames eye candy" well.. no... i love the design of that. I'd rathere have that design for this ^^ just in the right format. I also think we shouldnt want to make things really small (as you will see in the pic)
I'd like my buffs and debuffs to be just the buffs they usually but with green/red borders indicating buff/debuff, with a timer under it.
any suggestions? oh and this is a request lmao. for more ideas and more direct talking fonr me on ##ace on irc.freenode.net \o/
List tags are malformed.
For me the unit frames server 2 purposes. I need longer term info and short term info. IMHO I need 2 types of unit frames. One that shows me just about everything so I can keep a monitor on the less frequently changing info IE buffs. and one that shows me the critical need to know right now info. For example I'm not going to be casting buffs in the middle of the fight so those can be sidelined from the imediat need to know (second type). But once the action is over I need to catch up on any buffing that dropped mid fight.
This is why for me my aceperl frames have 2 displays. There are the more standard frames showing buffs etc and then the combat HUD for the 2nd type. Thus no buffs on the HUD only health/mana/combat spam/combo points (for rogues) etc. For me it works VERY well and I'm quite happy with it.
Oh and I must have click cast healing on any unit frames cause I'm too lazy to do it any other way.
