I tried it, and it looks like that's the idea, but the options are extremely limited. I couldn't even figure out how to move the bars out of the middle of my screen, for example. There was no option to unlock them, and no combinations of modifier-key-dragging worked on any part of the frame. So, not an alternative at this stage.
You must have spent 2 minutes using it. You click lock button to unlock/lock and there is an advanced button to show more options. And you must have no loaded the modules to see the encounter options. Btw you shift + click the bottom part to move it.
There's no need to be a dick about it. I spent about five minutes trying it out. I did find the "Advanced" button, and I did load boss modules, and I did find the "Lock/Unlock" button. I was able to move everything except for the bars. Sorry if you're offended that I wasn't magically aware I needed to shift-click some mysterious region at the bottom of the bars to move them.
Sorry, I just felt the need to reply when you were completely wrong.
I tried it out and spent the same time on this like Phanx. A "grow upwards" option for the bars would be kinda nice though ;)
Edit: What use have these "arrows" things that come with the bossmod?
And what do you mean "Each boss mod is a table with absolutely no coding in it" , that kinda scared me the first time using it.
Sorry, I just felt the need to reply when you were completely wrong.
Stating that I, personally, could not figure out how to move the bars is "completely wrong"? How on earth do you figure that? There was no visible indication to tell me how to drag the bars, and none of the click-drag combinations I tried on various visible parts of the bars worked, and the "lock/unlock" button (which I did indeed find and use) seemed to have no effect. I don't feel apologetic at all for stating that I, personally, was unable to figure out how to move them.
As an addon author myself, I find it particularly puzzling that when you read a post from someone who tried your addon and couldn't figure out how to use it, you feel the need to attack them with sarcasm and unfounded assumptions, instead of asking questions about what they tried, or offering a friendly explanation to clear up the confusion.
1. Extremely limited options. If you were only talking about the bars then yes, but I doubt you were.
2. Clicking the lock button places 5 very visible black transparent squares on your screen with labels on them. I don't think you should have missed them.
I didn't mean to offend you any way, I apologize if I did. The only sarcastic statement was my first sentence, which was to convey that you spent very little time fiddling with it, and was later confirmed by yourself.
Anyways, don't post about DXE anymore in this thread, it's for BigWigs, not my mod. If you have any questions or concerns post in the comments on the project page or PM me. Thanks.

1. Yes, I was, actually. I don't care how many options there are for things to show if I can't configure how they are shown.
2. There were no black transparent squares on my screen, nor any labels. If you believe I'm lying, I'll be glad to provide screenshots.
If you didn't see the black transparent squares then it's a bug. Which version were you using?
FYI: If the user has to spend more than one minute figuring out how to do something as simple as moving the bars, then they will likely delete your addon and find another similar one that doesn't take more than a minute to figure out.
Also, I'm sure Phanx downloaded the newest version. Nobody, especially an author, who is willing to help someone else with an addon (even if it's somebody else's addon) is going to download an old version.
I don't know what is more obvious than a picture of a lock to toggle anchors when the frame is in the middle of your screen by default. Why don't you see if it takes you longer than one minute?
Also, I'm wondering what version he's using because I tested all the versions I committed in the past 5 days with clean saved variables. None of them reproduced the bug Phanx described.

Yeah, I'm not going to do that. Also, something that's obvious to you may not be obvious to someone else.
At this point I couldn't tell you which specific version I tried, as it's been deleted. I can tell you there were no black boxes, and no Lua errors, and that it was the latest revision on the project page as of about 4 days ago (I tried it just after reading Mercu's post), but that's about it.
I'm also not sure what "picture of a lock" you two are arguing about, as I didn't see anything like that anywhere. The button in the options UI was labeled something like "Lock/Unlock" in text, no icon.
Yes, unless the download link on the DXE project page gave me something else called "DXE", "DXE_Ulduar", etc... typing "/dxe" brought up a configuration dialog, and somewhere in there was a button labeled something like "Lock/Unlock" (that may not be exact). That's the button I referred to when I said that the unlock button didn't seem to do anything.
Typing "/dxe" does not bring up a configuration dialog, but "/dxe config" does. Let's say you did that instead. It is simply impossible for you to have found a "Lock/Unlock" button in the AceConfig options, and continuously claiming that you did is absurd. The method to unlock/lock anchors has always been located on the pane.
It's worked great for me, no issues, and pretty easy to use. Obviously in early stages if you're looking for all sorts of visual bar options... hence alpha
