Some of these online ads contain trojans/malware. Just want to bring it to attention of the admins of this website that your ad partner(s) are not on the up-and-up with the particular service they are providing you with. Trend Micro reported PAK_Generic.001 when a pop-up occured in a separate window the moment I loaded this website, advertising for some kind of virus scanning software that I never heard of before. Trend Micro was unable to quarantine this and I believe my definitions are up to date.
If there are exploits in the banner ads of wowace.com then the problem isn't the defensive software on the client end, it's between the administrators of wowace.com and their security systems to prevent such injections. And seeing as how banners are also served from the Updater app, it would be nice to know some more specifics as my entire guild runs the app and it would be good to get some official word on the scale of the compromise/threat, if it is indeed real.
You mean except rendering websites properly and running on other operating systems besides Windows, right?
What's wrong about software developers supporting just one platform? There are application for Linux or MacOSX not available for Windows... (don't tell me about possibility of running such apps under windows... you CAN run IE on Linux/MacOSX with Wine or other magic)
Also remember IE nor Firefox doesn't block ads in their current release version and you have to use extra software for such feature - AdBlock for Firefox or IE7Pro for IE.
This thread is about security and today internet security is all about the users being careful and updating their software regulary. Microsoft/Mozilla/Apple are all releasing patches for new security holes in mater of days-weeks and all known security holes are already fixed.
