If blizz would make itemtip:SetHyperlinkCompareItem(link, n) behave that way and expand the index n that be best... maybe that's a way to do this via hooking but that certainly is a way to code this up that retains compatibility with most tooltip addons out there.
I certainly wouldn't be against this, because if they implement it there'd be little-to-no changes needed to tK. It'd be really cool if they grabbed the mousewheel when compare tips are up, hover to get tips, roll mousewheel to change sets. Move away and back and it resets to the equipped set.
Aye, I often get a "stuck" alt key in the game if I alt-tab away during login. I actually wrote a little [mod:alt] conditional into one of my main macros so that I can easily notice when the blasted thing is acting up.
I don't use anything currently, and won't need anything until dual-spec is in. I keep my off-sets in the bank currently and don't respec unless it's super dire need... and it's never dire need for DPS so I'm always healy.
It hasn't been reported much, but pressing ALT in the Item slots shows a popup with the available items for this slot (using GetInventoryItemsForSlot()). The corresponding frame is PaperDollFrameItemFlyout. When the EquipmentManager dialog is opened, you can choose slots to be ignored or not for sets.
Fuck, they need a better tooltip when you turn the thing on, I would have never discovered that on my own unless I dug into the UI code (which I haven't yet).
Indeed, it's not a "need" while leveling, but this whole thing isn't about need it's about convenience. Take my DTK run a week or so ago. We had 3 80s and 2 75's, one of which was me, healing, on a ret pally. I literally had enough mana for 4 large heals. Even in my ret leveling gear, being able to switch over to holy spec would have made things a bit more comfortable.
No, it probably doesn't have much use at 40, but the 60-80 range I can see it being useful.
"What leveling character has multiple sets of gear anyway?"
Have you leveled a hybrid in Northrend? I have tanky, healy and dpsy sets on my pally, all from Northrend quest rewards... and he's only 76...
Well, there are two things here... hardcores that just hate everyone not-hardcore and say they suck, and people that really do suck. I'm *not* hardcore (I've yet to even go on a raid in NR), but most of the people from my ex-roomie's guild I've run with, well, suck. When 2 80 hunters are pulling about the same DPS that a 75 boomkin pulls.... well I think you get the idea.
As a ret pally, in ret gear, I was able to (bearly) heal DTK with an 80 tank in ~naxx10 gear and 2 80 DPS's (which did about on par with our 75 DPS, pathetic eh?). Had the whole group been my level, I wouldn't have been able to heal in that gear, and I don't know if my green quest reward healy set would have given me enough mana and +heal to have healed it.
Well, removing the fee to unlearn talents would kind of run counter to the whole point of the dual spec system, don't you think?
Not at all. The new system's designed to make it easy to swap, the old system it was not easy... cost was sorta a secondary reason here. If all they cared about was the hindrance the costs caused, they would have just removed them. This change is about making the talent system better across the board.
Besides that, they've not said anything about costs, aside from the obvious no cost to swap between your defined specs.
