I agree with your last statement there Ramble, if I had the time and resources I was totally build my own.
So if it is an I/O failure, Im pretty much screwed and need to buy some new stuff eh? Well that would have been good timing as I was getting a new computer, too bad my luck blows and I suck at life. If I could get to my pictures, songs, etc...which I recently had backed up on my iPod then deleted 2 days ago, I would link to an emoticon that describes how I feel.
Who knows, I may get to get my new computer after all. I've also found a way to back up some of my files, all of them would take an AMAZINGLY long time, heh.
Thank god some of my porgrams still work, such as EditPlus, Notepad, GIMP, Paint, etc..
I'll be using EditPlus/Notepad to back up any text files as for some reason I can browse and save with them, same goes for pictures and GIMP/Paint
My songs, are all on my iPod and there is now software that lets you transfers songs from your iPod to your computer.
Everything else, games, etc...Im pretty screwed on. I still have my RoC CD but lost my TFT, I still have all the WoW stuff, but Im fairly screwed on TFT and a few other software programs.
I plan to save most of my stuff to my iPod, if anyone else has any genius ways of saving my data, let me know. My next task will be to take down the desktop, and make my laptop my new home computer...Hopefully soon I can order I real desktop and be back in full!
Oh and what's happened to your current PC either sounds like an I/O failiure
Well, exactly what is this I/O failure you speak of? I know all about viruses/malicous software, etc... from my begining days to computers, I've sinced learned a lot about all that and know I have Avast! running and the a few other programs also.

When you start your next PC, go open-source.
About that, looks like it's not going to happen due to my idiotic familiy and the fact that they can't handle money, but I won't go into that.
As for open-source, this computer already is, I use firefox for my browser, with lots of nice extensions :), OpenOffice instead of MS Office because it's 10x better and well 100% cheaper! Pretty much everything I have on this is open-source and free except for of course win xp, wow, wc3, etc..
I've had some experiance with linux but not too much, I was planning on putting linux on this computer when I got my new one, but anyway I might not have internet for 1 day to upto a few months starting monday, not sure when I'll be back but hopefully soon.
Actually I'll still have limited internet, but that's it.
Im still debating whether to buy or build. Never built one myself but I hear it isn't too hard. Right now Im really thinking about pre-built as I don't know how long I can go with limited computing access, and I don't want to waste time screwing up the building.
Im thinking I will go with dell again, although I haven't had too much luck with them, probally just because when I ordered my first computer I knew VERY little, heh.
Well I was working on modifying Rowne's ChatScroll to try and get used to ace and maybe furthur my knowledge with stuff in general. After testing and having the modified code fail, I went to get back on msn. For some reason it didn't work. So I restarted and now the ONLY things that work right now are firefox and EditPlus...
WoW crashes on startup, aim and msn don't seem to finish loading ever, gtalk wont even show up even though the task manager says it's running...
The good news is I just recevied some money and Im going to be able to get my new computer, and in the mean time I have a laptop from school that I can probally use...
EDIT: forgot to mention that I can't even open up "my computer" and look at files or anything, can't run any anti-virus, etc...altho I dont think that's the problem as all I was doing was WoW and had this site open.
W00t iTunes works! To bad my speakers blew a few weeks ago...
