Just a heads up, since I believe Chinchilla uses this:
The UI button to toggle the minimap is no longer present in build 10596.
In addition, the global API function ToggleMinimap() has been removed. Oops not a global API function, it was just defined globally in FrameXML\Minimap.lua.
However, there is still a keybinding for toggling the minimap.
I get the following message when I use the keybind to toggle the minimap:
Message: [string "TOGGLEMINIMAP"]:1: attempt to call global 'ToggleMinimap' (a nil value)
Time: 10/16/09 23:35:25
Stack: [string "TOGGLEMINIMAP"]:1: in function <[string "TOGGLEMINIMAP"]:1>

If you have either the Auto Zoom or Wheel Zoom module (or both) enabled, it may be neccessary for Chinchilla to set the minimap to a known zoom level upon logging in so that it can properly handle zooming in and out for the rest of the session. Try disabling both modules and see if you get the same behavior the next time you log in.
Is there anyway to use the party/raid tracking dots on the minimap instead of the new blizzard ones? I am assuming blizz changed something because they used to work just fine but I haven't been able to find any information. I miss my stars. T.T I loathe the default blizzard tracking/party dots so much. I am hoping I am just missing something. Thanks! ^.^
oh and my pet no longer shows up on minimap at all.
No, there is no corresponding API to replace the party/raid member tracking dots. Even overriding Blizzard's texture by placing an identically-named new one in an appropriate path doesn't seem to work.
Your pet doesn't show up on the minimap because it uses a new 16th icon that was previously unused. Try using the "Nandini" texture and you should see your pet as a warning icon with the number 16 in it. (I included that icon years ago figuring Blizzard would eventually use it for something.)
I've been working on a set of newer blips that harmonize with Blizzard's party/raid blips, but I'm not completely satisfied with my work yet.
Edit: I think (but have not yet confirmed) that when a player is in a vehicle, the 15th icon is used to represent the player's vehicle under the player arrow on the minimap. The default 15th icon (a greyish diamond with white circular center) would fit nicely under the player arrow for that purpose.
[font=Verdana]I'm finally able to take a break from raiding and waste some time on drawing.
I've noticed that blips are always drawn at 1/48 of the window's height. That is, at 1024x768 blips are 16x16, at 1280x1024 they're 21.333x21.333, etc. In most cases, you generally get a better appearance by scaling a graphic down than by scaling it up. However, I've noticed that some of my blips actually look better when I draw them at 16x16, since that's closer to the final display size at most common resolutions.
I've attached here a set of blips called SimpleShapes. Many people have been asking for blips with much smaller dots for NPCs; hopefullly they will find these useful. (If you don't know how to add new textures for tracking dots, I'm not here to hold your hand; read the rest of this thread.)[/font]
P.S. -- When are we going to get expanded texture types in LSM? :P There are already special types for status bar and frame border textures, since they are intended to be used only in a certain context. What's wrong with having special types for minimapBorderPair, minimapMaskSet (so I can create hexagonal/polygonal masks that approximate the ROUND shape for edge calculations), minimapBlip, minimapPing (an m2 model reference; yes I have made some of these), and minimapArrowPair (a pair of m2 models for player and edge arrows).
If a popular minimap addon (hint, hint) supported these LSM types, perhaps authors of other minimap addons might feel compelled to support them as well.
I don't think "there can only ever be one of these things on screen at any time" is a valid argument for not having the types. The purpose of LSM is to make a media file reference available to addons that request it. Do I need to demonstrate first that more than one addon would like to request it? Would you support this expansion in LSM, or use a separate LibSharedMinimapMedia library if one were available for you to use?
An option to change the width of the "flat" border. I love the circle layout with one corner as a.. corner. But the Flat border is too wide for me and the other (can't remeber the name) is not wide enough. It's too hard to make a border with eePanels to that layout so please an option :)
The "width" of the border is not (and can't be) an option in Chinchilla. It's completely dependent on what's in the border texture file. If you need a border that's wider than "Thin" and narrower than "Flat" you can always draw one. :)
So, has a tutorial on how to add your own Blip textures come out yet? My main issue is wanting to tweak the colors; IMO, the difference between party and raid members is too subtle most of the time.
Tell me what colors would be less subtle and I'll try to accomodate your request. :)
Warning: Don't ask for purple. It's still too subtle for raid members, and it is easily confused with enemies. (I tried it and it was scary.)
Edit: And to answer your other question, raid and party members can have different shapes, different colors, or both. Raid members could even be invisible if you didn't want to see them.
Nandini, here are attached, the tooltip borders i told you about, as it seems impossible to send files via private messages.
on a sidenote, would that be possible to have a much smaller version of glass/solid sphere ?
Rather than draw you an entirely new border, you can very closely approximate the style in the file you attached by using the built-in "Thin" border style in Chinchilla and setting its color to a darker gray. An easy way to do this is to adjust its "L" component in the HSL group to about 23%. You may have to make it a bit darker or a bit lighter to match your actual tooltips, as those get recolored as well sometimes.
I do have several other blip and border styles I've been accumulating. Rather than tossing them a few at a time, I want to get them all to a quality I consider release-worthy, then getting some feedback on them via the forums, then adding them to the svn as an addon for people to download. To borrow from Blizzard, "it will be ready when it's ready." :)
Could you make a Blip graphic changing only the tracking icon? The main thing I use my minimap for is finding ore and that light pink icon isnt bright enough for me. Love the rest of them though, thanks for making it available.
If the main thing you use your minimap for is finding ore, just disable the "Tracking blips" module or set it to use the Blizzard default blips.
Edit: I still think the "Tracking blips" module should be disabled by default.
No offense, but those blips are crudely drawn and downright ugly. :P All that author has done is to cover up the silver or gold border of the (already crude) Blizzard blips with a thick black border. By doing so, he obscures important information meant to be conveyed by the blips: silver = player, gold = npc.
However, if you REALLY like them, you can add them yourself. :) Chinchilla provides functions for other authors to register their own border and blip textures for use in Chinchilla. I hope to make an example addon available soon that demonstrates these functions and makes it easy to add your own textures. (Sort of like how SharedMedia works.)
It matches the default one but i've replaced that Interface\Tooltip\UI-Tooltip-Border long ago, (well created one as it doesn't exist by default)
All the other addons for exaple skinner, eepanels, take the infos from that file, but chinchilla has its own, and no, it doesn't match in this case :)
As mentioned earlier, Chinchilla cannot draw a minimap border texture using frame border textures. Frame border textures are tiled; minimap border textures are stretched.
Since you were able to create a replacement for UI-Tooltip-Border, I think you should be more than capable of creating a replacement for Border-Tooltip in Chinchilla. Failing that, just send me your replacement UI-Tooltip-Border and I will make a minimap border just for you. :)
would that be possible to have one of the borders available, tooltip for example taking its shape from Interface\Tooltips\UI-Tooltip-Border.
Because those are the borders all my UI use, and none of those included in Chinchilla matches that one.
I beg to differ. The "Tooltip" border style exactly matches the shape of Interface\Tooltip\UI-Tooltip-Border. The only difference you will notice is that the edges and corners may be a pixel or two larger, due to the fact that minimap border textures are stretched, and not tiled like regular frame borders. There is no way around this unless I wanted to make a hundred different borders for each possible combination of UIScale and your minimap's scale. You may also need to make the border color slightly darker.
If none of these options work for you, you can always create your own border. :)
The cute animals people mysteriously see popping up are actually a part of the "Chinchilla" style border texture. It looks exactly like the "Tooltip" style border texture, except that if the lower-left corner of the minimap is square, you'll see a white chinchilla peeking up curiously over the edge. If the upper-right corner of the minimap is round, you'll see a grey chinchilla hanging on for his dear life.
