The data comes from www.wowhead.com. And Wowhead's data, in turn, comes from players running its data gathering addon and now and then uploading it to the site. So, if you're finding lots of nodes where the current data shows none, install it, go to those nodes, and upload the resulting savedvariables. At some point, once other players confirm your findings, these nodes will appear in Cartographer_Data.
Wow, thank you SO much for all that information. Could you provide a link to the proper Cartographer addon? I got the pack from curse gaming, but maybe that's not the proper addon.
You can find the most recent versions of all Cartographer addons here. Just click "C" in the top bar, then search and download the Cartographer-rXXXX.zip one itself as well as all the Cartographer_something-rXXXXX.zip modules you want. You'll need at least these: Mining, Herbalism and Data.
This addon. It's the new version of the database. Simply enable it in your WAU or redownload it now and then by hand and you're set: a new download with updated nodes every few days.
I haven't used Cartographer in a while and I have been having problems getting the Cartographer_Mining.lua and Cartographer_Herbalism.lua working properly?
They're working fine here. Try downloading new versions of all Cartographer addons, since they've been hugely updated in the last weeks. If you still have problems, delete all Cartographer_something.lua files in your SavedVariables folder. Also, be sure the modules you're trying to use are enabled in the AddOns button (before you load a character) as well as inside Cartographer's configuration panel.
Is there a new thread anywhere with updated databases?
Nope. Just use the addon that replaced them.
Also, does Cartographer still show the mini map node icons, where one should be? None of that is working for me.
Yep, working fine here too. The catch is: they only appear once you move your character at least a step. Right after you log in they don't, but after you move, they're all there.
Provided the use of the minimap is enabled, what (I think) can be disabled in Cartographer's options. Check that too, only to be sure! :)
I think I will have to require a SVN account.
I will look at this as soon as I can (wednesday probably cause I'm a bit tied up with my work atm).
Nice! If it's not much work, please make it so that on first run it just replace the data we already have with the new set, but on subsequent runs it doesn't delete new nodes we've found by ourselves, unless we tell it to do so. That would be, IMHO, the most perfect balance.
But if it's not possible, replacing them all is good enough too. :)
... naa, IMHO if ur not tune enough to put these file where they should be then you shouldn't use it.
That's not the point. It's simply easier to have a single repository than having to track forum posts for files. That's also the reason why there is a repository to begin with. I remember the time when all Ace addons were attachments to forum posts here. Not a pretty picture, trust me. :D
By the way, I'm "tune enough" to be running WoW under Linux. What about you? ;)
Wowhead is surely updating his database constantly (if u look at the changelog you will notice that the mining spots are decreased). So, yes I think the database take into account the change; maybe there still is some old node, but considering I update the dump quite often if u check this post often u will get an up to date database. My idea was to update the dump once a week, but I can update it whenever u people want. :)
Very cool! It would be perfect if this could be added to the files.wowace.com repository though. Wouldn't there be a way to create a "Cartographer_UpdateNodes" plugin to automagically update or replace the points we have recorded with yours? This really would simplify using your package. :)
