Okay, that's what I was looking for... people want to be able to sort in some arbitrary order because that's "how it's always been done". :p
Well that's part of it. It is a good idea to have main tanks sorted in a uniform way. You want everyone to have the same sequence, regardless that sequence. If they where to go with, say, an alphabetical sort.. that would work with out synch'ing and they could just use the blizzard MT list.
But the other side of the coin is the needs/wants/rants of the users.. will they accept a forced sequence when they've had ?4 years of custom, abritrary set?
Let me rephrase: If you want to sync a sorted MT list, you have to have an addon. If you have to have an addon, you could also sort the MT list locally according to a predefined, common ordering scheme. Given these facts, why is syncing desirable? You guys are saying you need to sync to sort, but also agreed that you can sort locally with the secure header attributes, so I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here. What is it?
Well i would aggree with you on most of those grounds. However there is the legacy preferance to being able to custom set a specific arrangement and sequence of said MainTanks.
Personally IF they are going to keep a Cusom Sort MT list, they should WhitePage it and make a common addon method that any addon could implement. IE: Prefix: "MTList", Mesage: "<Index:Player>". Where ofc only Raid Lead and Raid Assistants can set them (BAU). That would be a small and lightweight means to this end..
Well phanx that's really a addon-Dev issue. Is oRA2 doing releases for only localization changes? or are those changes having to wait till a real change is made and pushed? While the Paranoid Raid Leader is a valid point, i don't think it's quite as big as you make it.
As a Raid Leader myself, when i look at oRA's Version check, i look at the rev number for myself and ask if the rest of the raid is with in about 20revs. Ignorant Raid leaders need to be educated not shuned or used as an excuse, not every one is as bright about addons as a good many of us here.
Keeping with in the same minor-release, like v2.a.x where you'd want to keep "a" the same in the raid. That could work.. provided ora2 used release numbers like that >.>
crying about something is usual indicated by childish gibberish about said topic or a 5 paragraph post about how this all sounds crazy. While I do like extended discussions, when the material is all bleed out it is time to let the topic go and a answer given or the question asked of the Authors.
Just pointing out an obvious.. do as you wish as usual.. >.>
& To contribute to the idea of versioning...
@airtonix & that idea perposed: This would not be that hard to implement TBH.. All they'd have to do is add the release number to the version quiry. Provided every one has the same release or better it should be fine.
However as much as we all love oRA2, i'd love to see this added in the perposed oRA3 that they have been tinkering with for ages (atleas on the old SVN they where)
Please, While the debate so far has been useful to establish the issue going at it any more is rather academic and as the discussion about versioning has run it's course. Please Open a ticket one of you and see what the author says or does. When it comes down to it, it's their call.
me thinks alot of thse problems are comming from the recent changes to what keys off of RaidRosterUpdate events..
for example: ora wasn't allowing me to assign MT's, niether by tablet window or by dewdrop menu, but once i moved myself into group 2 and back it showed up in both places.. Same with it auto promoting ppl, used to do it once they joined the riad, but now only when someone moves in raid.
Since Innervate is on a 6 minutes cooldown, I often need to know if it's available if I am raid leader, because we only give them away on order ;)
But even if you do not implement Innervate please have a look at the other changes that allow to display the spellname.
I know it's your addon, and I really appreciate your work. It's a great addon!
I just think the additional display of spellnames would be really great, and the added Innervate would not be too much bloat ;)
So please reconsider the submitted patch.
