I actually went through (over the course of several raids) and set up separate class-colored buffs for all 10 classes. This involved adding the spell to the classes whitelist, and adding the same spell to all the other blacklists. It looked awesome. However, I found performance seemed to start to suffer.
In the end I settled on 1 group for other's buffs, 1 group for selfcast buffs, 1 group for buffs shorter (or equal to) 5 minutes, and debuffs. I'd really like to be able to set that first group to hide in-combat, but I don't think that's an option yet.
But yeah, I found making extensive use of white/black lists hurt my system quite a lot. I wish the UnitAura() system returned the class that cast the aura, and if the aura had a healing or a damaging effect. Those are basically the only reasons I'd personally engage the text-matching filters (and the ones where addon authors could stand to make the most performance gains).
Some difficulty tracking the Engulf Flames Dot on Malygos, i set it to pet and it doesn't track, i set it to vehicle it doesn't track, i set it to target and it tracks everyone in the raids dots.
At the moment there's no way to single out your pet/vehicle's auras (buffs/debuffs). Those settings you tried refer to the unit experiencing the aura, not the unit that cast it. The only information we have about the caster is whether it is the player or not.
It looks like in 3.1 Blizzard is increasing the amount of information we get about auras. Of particular note is the fact that you can single out auras from your pet/vehicle.
Some buffs, even though players cast them by themselves, nevertheless count as though someone else cast them. If this is the case with some of those buffs, then you could try not using the "self-cast" filter, and instead use the "maximum time" filter (just a minute or two, maybe?) to zero in on the buffs you're interested in.
As far as I know, ElkBuffBars gets all of its buff/debuff information from the game and it tracks everything. You don't add auras for it to track, you just have to make sure you have the right groups/filters configured.
What if you wanted to put the bars up against the top of your screen? :p
How about if we just made the anchors look exactly like the demonstration buffs? That way we can position them perfectly. The "buff name" should still be the group name though. There's probably a good reason why this isn't already the case, however.
While we're on the subject of feature requests, I tried out SatrinaBuffFrames the other day. Something it does that I think would be very nice to have in EBB (since I otherwise like EBB so much more) is that groups can be toggled to appear in and out of combat.
My own personal use of this would be to hide non-self buffs when I'm in combat. Basically, I'd be hiding all the raid-buffs I get once the boss fight starts, because it's too late for me to bother with being able to track them or not.
Also, that weird error with the chatlog spammage and the UI-crash keeps happening. I noticed this time there was a AceEvent-2.0 error: "block too big" or something to that effect. It tends to be during long play sessions with lots of large AoE packs. This is one of the last Ace2 addons I use now, but I'm not sure porting it to Ace3 would help or not, so I can't really advise either way. I don't think the exact cause of this error has been determined to date, anyway, and it's not an EBB specific bug.
Any chance we can get the filter-by-selfcast to count buffs/debuffs that your vehicle or pet has started? I don't think this is as trivial to implement as the currect selfcast filter, but it would be quite handy (I'm thinking of Malygos, primarily).
I get the same thing. Anytime there's a large number of mobs (more than 30 or 40), and I spread diseases to everything my whole UI gums up. Usually in a raid setting with a lot of debuffs on everything. Really not sure how to be more helpful with reporting it, because that screenshot above is pretty much the only thing we get.
I play a Death Knight with the Mining profession. I usually have Find Minerals set as my Tracking Skill. When I die, this is set to None, but ElkBuffBars still says I have Find Minerals. Only when I right-click this can I actually see that the tick is next to None.
Elkano, would it be possible to add in a new filter type? I would find it very useful to be able to filter buffs based on whether or not I cast them myself (and I think this is possible in the new UnitAura API).
My current setup has a group for every single class, and I've painstakingly added each of these buffs to the default group's blacklist and their own group's whitelist. I'm pretty sure this is a waste of system resources (yet it's so darn pretty), but the basic functionality I was after was just separating out my own buffs.
A "self-cast" filter (yes / no / both) would accomplish this automatically, methinks. And without maintaining a several long lists of buffs in the DB. What are your thoughts?
EDIT: Please ignore me, I'm a darn blind fool! Thanks, keep up the awesome work!
