No, it goes like this: you can ask the API about the duration of debuffs on yourself, and about any spell that you cast yourself, no matter the target. But you can only "check" for the duration of a spell you cast yourself when it sits on your target, your focus, yourself, or someone in your party / raid. You can "see" buffs cast by other people, but you cannot see the duration if you are not the one the spell is put upon. You cannot ask the API whether a spell you cast is still running, if that spell is running on a hostile mob you are neither focussing or targetting. What NECB does (or used to do, no idea if it changed) is guesswork. If it catches the time that a spell was cast, it can make assumptions about how long it will last, and display that as a duration. If the spell's duration depends on stuff like talents or set items, NECB may actually display complete bogus, unless it goes and inspects that player, checks his equip and talents and figures those into his calculation. Which I assume it does not. If it displays the duration of a spell that you cast on a hostile, but that you neither target nor focus, it may know the duration that the spell "should" last, but if the spell is dispelled while the mob is outside your combat log range, or if it dies outside your log range, NECB simply won't catch it and display the spell as still running.
EBB shows less information than NECB, but everything it displays is 100% accurate. If it does not know the duration of a spell, it tells you so by simply not displaying any duration. If you absolutely need features like NECB offers, go and use NECB. Or take a look at some other addons, depending on what you need. There are a few DoT timers, there used to be a special addon for Scorches, and there was an addon named SpellReminder (on this site), that may be interesting for you. No idea if SpellReminder got updated for 2.4.
Well, it is not a dependency. EBB runs just fine without it.
And no, you are not right, you not only need SharedMedia. You really need LibSharedMedia-3.0. EBB throws errors without it. SharedMedia just adds textures and fonts that can be used by EBB via LSM3.
As far as I understood it, the various LibSharedMedia are needed to access textures and sounds and such. It is SharedMedia and SharedMedia-2.0 that actually provide those. But SharedMedia-2.0 only adds sounds and textures to LSM1 and LSM2, while SharedMedia adds those to all three LibSharedMedia.
Someone knowing more may tell you that what I just said is complete BS. If I am wrong, please enlighten me. :)
So, what you actually need to have installed to run addons is:
Totems are neither buffs, nor debuffs, so you need special addons to track them. Similar with stuff like the duration of a mage's elemental. And since so few classes need it, I prefer it staying in seperate addons, and not adding overhead to EBB.
I sure would not mind such a feature - but wouldn't it be less space-consuming to just color the stacks differently?
Friend of mine did that for his raid setup.... now how do I insert pictures here... ah damn, I'll just link to it: Clicky for screenie
Green are the "mandatory" buffs, so that one can immediately see when one of those is missing. Yellow is paladin auras, blue is other buffs, red is debuffs.
Well, if you block everything that is not whitelisted, such a list will not become very long. Depends on class ofc, but few put more than 2-10 debuffs on their target. Plus the 1-2 interesting debuffs that other professions cast.
I'd first make sure that you no longer have ElkBuffBar (without the "s", non-Ace Version) installed. Also, it may be a good idea to remove any elkbuffsoemthing files in the WTF folder. See if that changes anything.
Actually, I have been thinking about something like that as well. I sure would love vertically shrinking bars that are ordered horizontally. No idea if that is even possible, if you can display text vertically.
I would like some sort of visible option when a buff is ending. Flashing bar, or something like that. I wasn't able to find anything when setting this up, so if it is already there someone please point me to it. :)
Isn't there, afaik. CDT2 has some nice color-change (from red to green) while a bar shrinks. Would be cool if it were possible to have that in EBB. Or maybe flashing bars at the last 10%. Settable per bar-group, wouldn't make sense to have that for all bars.
Edit: Also I've noticed with Target debuffs the bar seems to deplete somewhat choppily, like a chunk disappearing for each second, is this like a bug or just sort of a de facto feature?
EBB only smooths out the player's bars for durations < 2 minutes. I have been whining about that for some time, but Elkano doesn't hear me. ;) Still, even with this choppily shrinking bars, EBB works very well for target and focus - I use it that way on both mage and druid atm. So, it's not overly important, just nice-to-have.
