<Torhal> Tem: Make Norganna change LibTooltip's name. :D
<Torhal> I don't wanna rename mine.
<Tem> Torhal, you're about a day behind
<Tem> we changed it this morning
<Torhal> No more name clash.
<Tem> except you SHOULD have changed yours
<Tem> we've had LTT for a year and a half
<Tem> since may 07
<Nayala> Both should probably be changed unfortunately... since users might end up with either.
<Torhal> I noticed. That's why I have a poll on WoWAce for names :)
<Tem> Nayala is probably right
<Torhal> About a week after the project was made I found out about your version
<Torhal> Did a big /facepalm
<Tem> I just found out about yours about a week ago
<Tem> I've been sort of
<Tem> fingers in the ears "LA LA LA LA LA" about wowace for a while
<Torhal> Well, I did my first commit on 10/17/2008 and found Norganna's version around a week or so ago
<Nayala> Except for the addon name though did they really clash? One was LibTooltip-Beta1 the other LibTooltip-1.0 I assume.
<Torhal> Well, I assumed the one that wasn't mine would go 1.0
<Torhal> And they're both using LibStub
<Torhal> So I put up a poll for a new name
<Torhal> I didn't want stuff exploding
<Nayala> Yeah long term problem... but probably why most users didn't notice even if they had both.
<Torhal> That plus the first beta of mine was released 10/25
<Torhal> There are probably like 4 addons using it
LibTooltip is fine. Or LibTip. Or, you could just name it after me and I'll be happy. :)
LibTooltip was fine, until I discovered that Norganna and company have their own library of the same name (which is also using LibStub) for EnhTooltip. So anyone using an addon that has our LibTooltip with Auctioneer or Gatherer will see stuff break. So, rename is unfortunately needed.
Meh. LibMultiColumnTip, to me, is a bit verbose. Also, as was pointed out to me on IRC: "What if I want a single-column tooltip?"...though it is supported, that name makes it seem as though it probably isn't. And though ckknight graciously gave permission to use the name Tablet, I think doing so would be misleading and cause a hell of a lot of screaming.
I gave the ideas I had, but I'll try to think of more. /sigh
Anything with 'Multi' in it creates connotations of multiple tooltips, in that respect Xinhuan's MultiColumnTips is better as it qualifies it, but reading here multicolumn is basic feature but not all of it.
It does create multiple tooltips, if you tell it to. :)
Icky. Kinda saw that one coming, really. The other LDB feeds are more than likely using Blizzard's GameTooltip, which TipTop itself uses. LibTooltip makes its own tooltip - and has the ability to create multiple tooltips. We had discussed adding API for more options such as scaling and other things, but those have yet to make it in.
EDIT: Meh. I should go to bed. We don't need a scaling API - it's built into the frames.
I think we need more higher level apis, or enhanced versions of our current ones. I'm not sure we need more low level apis.
All I know is this: If I want to update the text in a cell, I shouldn't have to worry about its current font or justification or anything else, as it's already been set. Same for changing its justification - I shouldn't have to know what its text value is to change it from CENTER to LEFT.
I've looked through the code and really I don't see very many wasted lines. And definately don't see much if anything that we can cut out without loosing functionality.
I really do feel we're at a good balance atm
I almost agree: Having SetCell() be the only modifier after AddLine() and AddHeader() is quite cumbersome. I'm going to look at making SetCellVal(), SetCellFont(), and SetCellHJust() without adding much, if any, more code. Maybe they can be the basis for the SetCell() implementation itself.
